What you can expect

Escape the noise and pollution of Bogotá and reconnect with nature in one of the region’s most inspiring conservation projects.

Journey into the Tequendama region to explore the Bosques de Macanal Reserve, a 249 hectare cloud forest that has been carefully restored over more than 50 years. This unique territory is the life’s work of architect Fernando Cortés Larreamendy, who transformed degraded land into a thriving ecosystem and a powerful example of regeneration.

As you walk along forest trails, discover towering Andean oak trees, giant ferns, and a rich diversity of epiphytes and bromeliads. This ecosystem is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including hummingbirds such as the racket-tail and sword-billed hummingbird, squirrels, and if you’re lucky one of the many sloths that inhabit the reserve.

More than a hike, this is a sensory and immersive experience. Breathe fresh mountain air, listen to the sounds of water and forest life, and connect deeply with a landscape shaped by time, care, and intention. Along the way, encounter streams and small waterfalls, creating the perfect setting for a true forest swimming experience.

At the end of the walk, enjoy a warm drink and a moment of rest surrounded by nature, with time to take in the peaceful atmosphere of this unique sanctuary.
