Begin your adventure in the funicular square of Bilbao, near Matiko. Take the funicular to the top of Mount Artxanda and enjoy the incredible scenic views of Bilbao and the surrounding mountains.

After taking some photos, learn about the plants traditionally used in rural areas of the Basque Country and Spain. Once you know more about the different uses of plants in this region, identify them by touching and smelling them.

During this pleasant walk, you will identify and taste medicinal and edible plants that were widely used by your ancestors, such as fennel, mustard, fumitory, different types of mint, sorrels, elder trees, and more.

Because of the forest’s lushness, forget you are in the middle of a city. This woodland is home to eagles, wild boars, woodpeckers, and more. Halfway along the route, cross the “fairy stream,” protected by several centuries-old oak trees. In the wetter areas, ferns, mints, wild geraniums, and more are abundant.

At the end of the route, prepare a healing herbal infusion with the plants you have harvested. Take home a booklet with the plants you have learned about.
