Taotor Cycle Route – Gravel Experience in Salento
Discover the most authentic Salento along the Taotor Cycle Path, a circular route that combines coast and countryside, myth and stone, history and breathtaking landscapes. A self-guided, flexible, and safe gravel experience, starting and ending in Melendugno, in the heart of Salento.
You can choose from three routes of 30, 60, or 100 km, depending on your level and the time you have available. Each itinerary has been carefully mapped to offer you secondary roads, dirt tracks, and scenic paths, away from traffic and immersed in the beauty of the area.
The tour is self-guided: we'll provide you with a GPX map, which you can easily follow from your smartphone or cycle computer, and you'll always have on-call assistance for any eventuality. No guides to follow: you're free to stop, explore, take photos, or swim whenever you want.

The routes
• 30 km | The sacred sea
Ride through the countryside to the coast to visit Roca Vecchia and the Grotta della Poesia, an ancient sanctuary linked to the archaic god Taotor. Then ride along Torre dell'Orso and return among the centuries-old olive trees.
• 60 km | Between nature and archaeology
Extend your route to the fortified village of Acaya and the Oasi delle Cesine, one of the wildest places in Puglia. Ride along the cliffs of Sant'Andrea, admire the sea stacks, and enjoy the balance between sea and land.
• 100 km | The complete Taotor loop
A complete adventure along the entire eastern stretch of Salento. You'll pass from the Alimini Lakes to the city of Otranto, from the red bauxite quarries to the Palascia Lighthouse, the easternmost point of Italy. The return trip takes you through the megalithic villages of Uggiano La Chiesa, Giurdignano, the Torcito forest and Carpignano Salentino, among dry stone walls and stone farmhouses.

A name steeped in history
The cycle path is named after Taotor, a prehistoric deity worshipped in Roca. His name is engraved in the Cave of Poetry, one of the most important archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. Taotor represents water, regeneration, and travel: perfect symbols for those exploring Salento by bike.
