This tour is built for a different kind of traveller — one who looks at the Three Wise Monkeys and asks: why does this phrase appear in an ancient Hebrew proverb written centuries before these carvings existed?

    Aboard the express train from Asakusa, your tour leader Marty — begins the storey before you arrive. At Toshogu Shrine, you won't just admire the Yomeimon Gate's 508 carvings — you'll learn why one pillar was deliberately carved upside down, and why its motifs echo ancient Near Eastern traditions carried east along the Silk Road.

The iconic vermilion bridge marking the entrance to Nikko's sacred precinct. For centuries, ordinary people were forbidden from crossing it — a concept of sacred threshold found in many ancient traditions around the world.

Rinno-ji Temple

One pillar was deliberately carved inverted — perfection, the builders believed, belonged only to the divine.
