Explore the essentials of Korean cuisine in this hands-on 5-course cooking class in Alameda. Guided by Chef Polly, you’ll discover how traditional Korean ingredients, seasonings and pantry staples come together to create a vibrant meal from scratch. This 2.5-hour experience includes five courses and is designed to feel approachable, flavourful and fun for beginners and curious home cooks alike.
Begin your 5-course meal with doenjang-jjigae, a comforting soya bean paste stew made with tofu, vegetables and garlic. Then, prepare chapgokbap, a multigrain red rice dish with barley, millet and beans, followed by beoseot bokkeum, stir-fried mushrooms with garlic, sesame oil and soya sauce. Next, make japchae with potato starch noodles, spinach, mushrooms, eggs and a sweet soya dressing.
To finish, prepare hotteok, chewy Korean sweet pancakes filled with brown sugar and nuts. At the end of class, sit down to enjoy the full 5-course Korean meal you helped create. Guests are welcome to bring wine or beer to enjoy during the class, and the menu can easily accommodate vegan and gluten-free diets if noted before the event.
