Nonni's House, is a listed building, one of Akureyri’ s oldest houses from the 1850's. The name of the house refers to Jón Sveinsson, Nonni, who grew up here until he began his incredible journey becoming a Jesuit priest and a writer whose books were and are published in such diverse languages as Chinese and Esperanto. Perhaps in yours.
Akureyri Toy Museum is a step away, located in a listed building from the 19. century there you will find, you guessed it, toys from the 19. and 20. century. Become a child again.
At the Industrial Museum you get fashion, furniture, food… everything a person or a household would need. All made in Akureyri. You must see it to believe it.
At the Museum of Things less is certainly not more. A charming and curious museum that celebrates the beauty of everyday objects. A delightful stop for anyone interested in nostalgia and the little things that make up the big picture. Located 25 km south from Akureyri on the road to the Christmas house.
Laufás heritage site is a beautifully preserved large turf house that offers a unique window into Icelandic life in the 19th century. This former priest’s residence and wealthy farm showcases traditional architecture and domestic life through authentic interiors and historical artefacts. Surrounded by stunning nature and steeped in local history. It is located 25 km from Akureyri towards Mývatn.
Step inside the preserved home of one of Iceland’s most beloved poets. Davíðshús, Bjarkarstíg 6, invites visitors into the quiet world where poetry, literature, and thought once lived. The house remains much as Davíð left it – filled with books, personal items, artwork and atmosphere – offering a unique and intimate glimpse into the life and mind of a literary icon.
