Day 1: Fes → Ifrane → Azrou → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Merzouga → Camel Trek & Overnight in Sahara Camp
Your unforgettable journey begins at 7:00 AM, when your friendly driver choices you up from your hotel or riad in Fes for a thrilling two-day escape into the Moroccan Sahara. As you leave the bustling medina behind, the road climbs into the Middle Atlas Mountains, revealing sweeping vistas and crisp mountain air.
Your first stop is the charming alpine town of Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” thanks to its clean streets, European-style architecture, and surrounding cedar forests. Continuing south, you'll pass through the cedar woodlands of Azrou, where you'll have the chance to meet the cheeky Barbary macaques that live freely in the forest — be sure to keep your snacks safe!
The journey continues through the high plains and rugged beauty of the Middle Atlas, dotted with small Berber villages and dramatic mountain landscapes. You’ll stop in Midelt for lunch, known for its apple orchards and panoramic mountain views.
From there, the landscape gradually transforms as you descend into the Ziz Valley, where a ribbon of green palms snakes through the desert, fed by the river that cuts through the canyon. You'll reach the gateway town of Merzouga by late afternoon, where the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi rise like golden waves on the horizon.
After a brief rest, your camel will be waiting to carry you into the heart of the dunes for a mesmerising sunset trek across the sands. As the sun dips low, painting the sky with fiery colour, you'll arrive at your Berber desert camp, nestled among towering dunes. Enjoy a hearty Moroccan dinner by the campfire, followed by traditional music under a star-studded desert sky. Autumn asleep in your private tent to the gentle hush of the desert night.
Day 2: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Ifrane → Return to Fes
Wake early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, a magical moment of silence and light that will stay with you forever. Afterwards, ride your camel back through the cool morning sands to a nearby hotel, where a warm shower and a traditional breakfast await.
Once refreshed, you'll begin the scenic return to Fes, retracing your journey through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas Mountains. Along the way, enjoy stops for photos and rest — perhaps pausing again in Azrou for a final look at the cedar forests or in Ifrane for a relaxing coffee before heading back to city life.
