2-Day High Country Farmstay Tour from Melbourne to Sydney

by Bunyip Tours Duration 2d Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per traveller Price is AU$329

With its rolling foothills, mountain-framed landscapes and historic farmsteads in winding river valleys, the natural beauty of Australia's High Country is as boundless as the continent's vast interior. Spend 2 days exploring the Victorian Alps and Canberra on this journey from Melbourne to Sydney.

Day 1
Set out from Melbourne, and ride into Kinglake National Park, where gum trees tower overhead and tranquil waterfalls tumble down stream beds. Stop in Mansfield, a small town in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, and head to Powers Lookout. As you gaze out over the forested hillsides and patchwork fields of the valley floor, hear about bushrangers like Ned Kelly and Harry Power – infamous outlaws who once roamed the High Country.

Admire the cliff-edged swath of the Murray River, and stop in the gold mining town of Beechworth, where you can stroll by well-preserved historic buildings and walk in the footsteps of 1850s-era frontiersmen who came here to make their fortune. Finally, arrive at a working farm. Meet the animals, and share stories with your host family over a hearty meal before heading to bed.

Day 2
Leave the farm behind, passing through bucolic countryside and over the Murrumbidgee River on your way to the charming pioneer town of Gundagai. Continue on to Canberra, the country's capital city, for a tour of Parliament House. Nicknamed the "Home of the Australian Story", Canberra houses the National Museum of Australia and the National Gallery. Visit one of these world-class institutions to learn about Australian culture, heritage and the history of Canberra itself before hopping back in the coach for the final leg of your journey to Sydney.
