Come to this delightful town on the west coast of Wales to visit historical sites, enjoy a lively atmosphere and relax at beautiful beaches.

Aberystwyth is a seaside town nestled between three hills on the west coast of Wales. Experience this university town’s combination of youthful vibrancy, historical delights, scenic splendour and attractions of a coastal resort. Unwind on the beaches, stroll along the promenade and pier and visit ancient castle ruins.

A pleasant way to get your bearings is to ride the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway, one of the longest funicular electric cliff railways in Britain. Take photos of the wonderful views in all directions as you climb Constitution Hill from the northern end of the town’s promenade. At the summit is a café and the Aberystwyth Camera Obscura. Use this optical device to see approximately 2,590 square kilometres (1,000 square miles) of land and coastline.

Come back down to the town to enjoy its many attractions. Walk along the promenade and visit the pier, which features a nightclub, pizzeria, ice cream parlour and pub. View brightly painted, Victorian seafront houses. Explore the ruins of Aberystwyth Castle, a fortification commissioned by Edward I in the late 13th century. The park around the castle encompasses picnic areas and a crazy golf course.

During your stay in the town, go on an excursion to Devil’s Bridge Falls, about 19.3 kilometres (12 miles) inland. Witness the power and the beauty of this spectacular waterfall and hike through the surrounding woodland on a nature trail.

For your evening's entertainment, see a show at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre, one of the largest art centres in the United Kingdom. It has a concert hall, theatre, cinema and gallery spaces. Before your visit, stop for a drink in one of the town’s many bars and pubs.

To get to Aberystwyth, fly into the international airport at Cardiff. Complete your journey by rental car, train or 4-hour coach trip. Get around to the seaside town's scenic, historical and cultural attractions by car, buses or taxis.
