Gera
8.4 out of 10, Very good, (24 reviews)
"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all...

The beirgarten by the water has excellent food, although it closes at 930pm (as does the only restaurant on site (a buffet). The place was comfortable for 1 dayx the lake location and sauna were exactly what we wanted"

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful hotel set in nice grounds. The main building used to be a palace. We were allocated a room in the adjoining building. When we first arrived, we were told that they were full, despite us having booked in advance. But this was soon sorted out. Our room was clean and tidy and spacious. It had a slanted ceiling right above the bed, so we had to be careful getting in and out. The wifi was not very strong in the room but luckily we did not really need it for anything special. The restaurant offered a buffet or the a la carte menu. The buffet looked a bit lacking so we chose the menu and the food was excellent. We can highly recommend the pork schnitzel and the salmon. Parking free and on site. All in all, a lovely place to stay."

This area is the heart of Zeulsdorf, offering a convenient and pleasant base for exploring the region. It's characterised by traditional Thuringian architecture, with guesthouses and local eateries often housed in historic buildings. You'll find the main amenities, such as a bakery and a small grocery store, within easy walking distance.

For couples looking for a peaceful retreat, the village centre is ideal. It provides a quiet setting with opportunities for relaxed strolls through the village and easy access to the surrounding countryside for walks or cycling. The local guesthouses often provide a personal touch, making for a memorable stay.

Families will also find this area suitable due to its calm environment and proximity to local parks and walking trails.
When is the best time to go to Zeulsdorf?
The best time to go to Zeulsdorf is during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn, specifically May to September.

During this period, the weather is generally pleasant, with milder temperatures and more sunshine, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the natural beauty of the Thuringian Forest. You'll find it comfortable for walks, cycling, and visiting local attractions without the chill of winter.

For those who enjoy hiking and nature, July and August offer the warmest weather, great for longer treks through the forest or around the Zeulenrodaer Meer. The days are long, allowing ample time for exploration and enjoying the scenic landscapes.

If you prefer slightly cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, May, June, and September are excellent choices. The landscape is particularly beautiful in May and June with everything in bloom, and September brings the lovely colours of autumn.
