## Space

Salt air and the low sound of the sea reach this stretch of Burgemeester Engelbertsstraat, in the centre of Zandvoort with the boulevard two minutes away. Forty-two square metres, arranged for two people who want space rather than a hotel room.

The bedroom holds a queensize bed. Off it, the living area has room to sit and eat properly, with a dining corner rather than a coffee table balanced on your knees. The kitchen is set up for real cooking: hob, oven, fridge, toaster, kettle and enough counter to work on. The bathroom is the surprise: a full-size bath to soak in after a windy day on the beach, and a separate shower alongside it. Off the living area, a west-facing balcony with a table and chairs catches the afternoon and evening sun.

Heating runs on radiators you control yourself, room by room. Linen and towels are here when you arrive.

## Neighborhood

Zandvoort is a busy North Sea beach town 30 minutes from Amsterdam, known for its wide sandy beach, the Circuit Zandvoort, and lively summer atmosphere. It gets busy in peak season: parking is limited and the beach fills up fast, but the dune walks and beach clubs make it worth the crowds.

From the door it is two minutes on foot to the nearest beach access and the boulevard. The shops, supermarkets, bakeries and the Thursday market are all around you, because this is the centre. Beachclub Thalassa on Boulevard Barnaart does the best fish in Zandvoort and has a big terrace. For a quieter afternoon, the Kennemerduinen dune reserve starts at the northern edge of town and you can walk for hours without seeing a road.

## Transit

Zandvoort aan Zee station is about six minutes on foot. Haarlem is 10 minutes by train, Amsterdam Centraal around 30 minutes, usually with a change in Haarlem. Schiphol is roughly 40 minutes by train. By car, Haarlem is 15 minutes and Amsterdam about 35.

➤ This is the centre of Zandvoort, which is what puts everything within walking distance. It also means the town is lively in summer, and noise from the boulevard and the circuit weekends carries this far.
