About this property

Dakota Haus · Hot Tub, Boulders, Views, 5 Acres

  • Summary:

At Dakota Haus, the boulders are practically part of the architecture. Set on five secluded acres in Pioneertown, this design-forward desert home offers panoramic mountain views, a hot tub tucked among ancient rock formations, and extraordinary stargazing. Spend your days exploring the landscape, cooling off in the seasonal cowboy tub, or enjoying the quiet from the deck. With two bedrooms, inviting outdoor spaces, and room for six, it's a place to truly disconnect.

    The Space:

Built into a hillside of towering granite formations, Dakota Haus feels intimately connected to the desert around it. Its charcoal exterior blends into the rocky terrain, while enormous picture windows bring the mountains, boulders, and changing desert light indoors. The interiors are modern but full of character, with polished concrete floors, warm wood, earthy textiles, and thoughtful architectural details. Whether you're watching the landscape from the sofa or finding a quiet spot among the rocks, the natural surroundings remain the centerpiece of your stay.

The home is especially appealing to couples traveling together, close friends, or a small family looking for a peaceful getaway with plenty of outdoor space. Explore the trails of nearby Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, venture into Joshua Tree National Park, or spend an afternoon browsing Pioneertown's Old West storefronts before catching dinner and live music at Pappy & Harriet's.

    -Outdoor Amenities-

Outside is where Dakota Haus really comes into its own. Massive granite boulders rise around the property, creating natural pockets of shelter and places to sit and take in the landscape. The five-acre setting feels wonderfully removed from the everyday, with uninterrupted stretches of rocky hillsides, desert vegetation, and mountains in the distance.

The elevated deck extends the living space outdoors, with comfortable seating for reading, conversation, or simply watching the shadows move across the rocks. An outdoor dining area makes it easy to linger over a meal, while the propane fire pit provides a welcoming gathering place when the desert air turns cool.

A short distance from the house, the hot tub sits among the boulders, surrounded by rock formations that make the experience feel distinctly Pioneertown. It's a wonderful place to unwind after hiking or settle in beneath the night sky.

During warmer months, the cowboy tub offers another way to enjoy the outdoors, particularly on sunny afternoons. Please note that this is a cowboy tub, not an in-ground swimming pool, and it is drained and unavailable November through March.

After dark, the property's remote setting reveals one of its greatest pleasures: a sky filled with stars, with very little surrounding light to compete with the view.

The grounds are natural desert terrain and are not fully fenced.

    -Living Area-

The living room is designed around the view. An oversized picture window stretches across the wall, placing the surrounding boulders and distant mountains directly in front of the seating area. It's the kind of room where you might sit down with a book and end up spending more time looking outside.

A generous sectional sofa, a warm leather armchair, and layered Southwestern textiles give the space a relaxed, collected feel. Built-in shelving frames the TV and electric fireplace, creating a comfortable setting for movie nights or evenings indoors when the temperatures drop.

The open layout connects the living room with the kitchen and dining area, allowing everyone to spend time together without feeling crowded. For groups of up to six, the pull-out sofa provides additional sleeping accommodations.

    -Kitchen and Dining-

Dakota Haus pairs its rugged surroundings with a sleek, contemporary kitchen. Dark cabinetry, a geometric black tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and a substantial wood-and-concrete island give the room a distinctive modern character.

The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing meals at home, whether you're making a quick breakfast before heading out or cooking dinner with friends. The island offers casual seating, so there's always somewhere to keep the cook company.

For slower mornings, make coffee or use the French press and settle into the small breakfast nook beside the window, where the surrounding rocks are part of the scenery.

The dining area offers space to gather for meals together, while the outdoor dining setup invites you to take advantage of pleasant desert weather.

    -Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Both bedrooms are designed as restful spaces, with queen beds, warm wood furnishings, white walls, and contrasting dark ceiling beams. Windows frame the surrounding boulders, keeping the desert close even when you're tucked into bed.

The understated interiors feature patterned textiles, soft bedding, and individual touches of artwork and décor that give each room its own personality. With two separate bedrooms, the layout works particularly well for two couples or a family sharing the home.

A pull-out sofa in the living area provides additional sleeping space, bringing the total occupancy to six guests.

The home also includes two bathrooms with contemporary finishes. One features white subway tile, a glass-enclosed walk-in shower, and a green glass vessel sink that adds a welcome pop of color. The other pairs patterned tile with a round mirror for a clean, modern finish.

Whether you're beginning the morning with a quiet view of the rocks or winding down after a day of exploring, the bedrooms offer a comfortable retreat from the desert sun.
