"The manager (owner?) and his wife were incredibly welcoming and pleasant. They take great pride in their hotel and it shows in every aspect of our stay. "

"Excellent staff service, tasty food, clean property, nice onsen, quiet atmosphere, walkable and convenient shuttle service, nice view and more. I was very pleased. I am definitely coming back to stay at the hotel. "

"Rooms were clean, towels and japanese robes replaced each day. The onsens were clean, the outdoor one was usually empty, just for me. The gentleman at the reception was accommodating to us and gave us a few rides from the hotel to different locations (station, monkey park). "

"Very accommodating. Explained how the stay would function given it is a ryokan and not a typical hotel. Onsen facilities were beautiful and well kept. Staff is extremely friendly and personable. "

"Absolutely unique experience. If you want a fancy western style hotel, don’t stay here. If you want to have a genuinely Japanese experience, in an absolutely stunning area with some of the best snow I have seen in my lifetime, then add Kumanoyo to your list. Personally, I loved this place. "

"Wonderful hospitality, with a historic, step back in time feel. The most kind host who runs the ryokan as the 3rd descendant of the family - it was begun by his grandfather. The property is dated with rough edges but it is a great option at a good price.
The town is a sleepy but the few small restaurants we found were so good and cozy. The public hot baths by the train station were very nice and the neighboring town has a public onsen that can be accessed for a fee (it is one of the 9 the...

"A beautiful and rustic ryokan run by a lovely older couple and their son. The building and it’s location are incredible, just a short walk from Yudanaka Station and Shibu Onsen. "

"The area is picturesque with nice views of the mountains. There are two supermarkets and a petrol station close by. The interchange for the highway is 2 minutes away. There are a number of restaurants fairly close. The yakiniku restaurant gets booked up pretty quick so be sure to make a reservation. The former Sanada residence and military school are worth taking a look at too. They are just a couple of minutes away.

"I had a wonderful stay at Urakusatsu Tou in Kusatsu, Japan. The hotel is very clean, and the room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the check-in process was smooth and efficient. The onsen was well-maintained, offering a peaceful and relaxing environment — a perfect way to unwind after exploring Kusatsu. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the area!"
"Fantastic location. Easy to walk to Nagano station. Easy walk to Zenkoji. It is a Japanese hotel so it is a small room. Don't expect western size. No issues with it at all. "
"Hotel Metropolitan Nagano is directly connected from Nagano Station which is a gateway to lots of sightseeing spots. Service was impeccable, breakfast abundant and scrumptious, location so central to shopping and dining.
The only thing I wish this hotel would have is a spa with public bath/sauna. With cold winter in Nagano, hot bath would make the stay perfect. Otherwise, I enjoyed everything about my stay at this hotel. "
"I enjoyed my stay here. Hotel is right opposite Nagano station, and very close to the shopping and dining district. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly. No microwave available to heat your food, but there is a 7/11 close by for that. Bed was comfortable and a nice sized TV mounted at the base to watch shows. I would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Nagano."
