While Xiropótamos itself is a smaller village, the best area to stay for exploring the wider region is the nearby city of Drama. It offers more amenities and convenient access to the natural beauty around Xiropótamos.

Drama is the regional capital and provides a good base for quality-conscious travellers. The city centre, particularly around Agias Varvaras Park and the main pedestrian street, offers a selection of quality hotels, restaurants, and shops. It's a pleasant area for an evening stroll, with the park providing a tranquil green space.

For couples seeking a relaxing getaway with easy access to nature, staying in Drama allows for comfortable day trips to destinations like the Aggitis Cave or the Falakro Ski Centre, both within a reasonable drive. Returning to a comfortable hotel in Drama after a day of exploring provides a good balance of activity and relaxation.

Travellers interested in exploring the region's history and culture will also find Drama a convenient hub. The Archaeological Museum of Drama is centrally located, and the city's Byzantine walls are interesting to explore.

The best time to go to Xiropótamos is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant for outdoor activities.

During these months, the temperatures are comfortably warm, typically ranging from 20 to 28 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region without the intense heat of mid-summer. The landscapes are lush in spring with blooming wildflowers, and the autumn brings beautiful colours to the surrounding hills.

For those planning to hike or engage in outdoor adventures, these periods offer excellent conditions. The trails are generally dry and well-maintained, and the cooler temperatures make longer excursions more enjoyable. It's also a good time for couples who appreciate serene natural settings and wish to avoid larger crowds.

If your primary interest is experiencing local festivals and a more bustling atmosphere, the peak summer months of July and August might appeal, though be prepared for higher temperatures, often exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.
