A big hotel close to the airport

This is a huge hotel, somewhat dated. The room is big near a shopping complex and very close to the airport. Not a bad choice if you want to stay close to the airport.

My overnight stay at this property was true eye opener. The hotel is touted as one of the largest in Asia, and I have to agree. It is well maintained and near some interesting shopping venues. The gym was handy and well equipped. The buffet dinner is a good value with a wide variety of international dishes. My only criticism was the black mold growing in the shower stall. A little bleach should solve that problem. Xiamen is such a welcome relief from the other crowded cities in China.

Hi, For the first time with booking a hotel with hotels.com the hotel were advising that they were not aware of my booking. Which in most scenarios would not be such an issue. As i was in Xiamen China the language barrier was not that great. They could not fond my booking on their system and as a result i had to call Hotels.com and get them to resend my booking to the hotel. This process took in total an hour, which after 16 hours of travel and having lost my luggage added to the frustration.

Convenient hotel nearby Xiamen airport

Xianglu is close to the airport and therefore convenient. The hotel is large and has restaurants, but not much to do outside the hotel. You can see the airplanes landing directly above the hotel, so it could get a little noisy outside, but it's quiet in the room. The room is spacious.

Very enjoyable experience

Our stay at this was great. The only set back was the hotel is located right under the airliner landing flight path of the local airport. The jet noiseness could be irritating. The breakfast menu was fantastic with great variety. The security was extremely tight due to a incoming meeting of world leaders. Everyone is under a watchful eye of local authorities. A new shopping mall was just openned right across the hotel is a plus. The food court in the mall has great selection of local taste.

Wir sind sehr spät in der Nacht im Hotel eingetroffen. Das Hotel an sich war völlig unübersichtlich und das Personal unfreundlich. Wir mussten extrem lange für das Check-in warten und dann wurde uns auch noch ein Zimmer gegeben, welches schon besetzt war...

Language barrier was horrible!

Even with a translator the staff couldn't understand our request. We were stopped there for an extended layover and paid for the room (for the whole night) just to use the facilities (shower, pool, gym, nap etc...) and the front seat refused to let us check out that night (to catch our flight). They insisted that check out was at ...pm the next day! We just ended up leaving to catch our flight (obviously!) The facilities don't match the pictures and have strict access rules (MUST wear a swimming cap that you HAVE TO BUY). I will not be returning and don't recommend this hotel to anyone.
