SPRING SALE just 125 per night. A ROMANTIC LOG CABIN, NEAR NEW RIVER TRAIL PARK
Spring has arrived in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The air carries the promise of warmer days, the trees are just beginning to bud, and the evenings still hold a gentle chill—the kind that invites you to curl up by the fire. On those cooler nights, the warm glow of the gas logs in the old stone fireplace creates an atmosphere of pure comfort. No chopping wood, no sweeping ashes. With a simple click of the remote, the flames come alive, filling the historic cabin with soft, steady warmth.
Thick, hand-hewn Chestnut logs wrap the cabin in natural insulation, keeping it cozy through the cooler months and refreshingly cool in summer. And thanks to our convenient location just off Rt. 52 and I‑77, Kent’s Cabin is easy to reach in any season—no winding mountain roads or tricky trails to navigate.
Whenever you choose to visit, the Blue Ridge offers its own kind of magic. Autumn paints the mountains in vibrant color and crisp hiking days. Winter brings peaceful, snowy stillness. Spring bursts with wildflowers and birdsong. Summer invites you to wander the trails, splash in the river, and soak up the sunshine.
At Kent’s Cabin, every season has its charm. With easy self‑check‑in, your getaway begins the moment you arrive—no appointments, no waiting. And just like that old TV ad promised, we’ll leave the light on for you.
Located just a mile from the Shot Tower entrance and about four miles from Foster Falls, Kent’s Cabin is a favorite destination for visitors to the New River Trail State Park. This 57-mile linear park follows an old railroad bed, paralleling the scenic New River for 39 miles and weaving through four Virginia counties and the city of Galax. Its gentle slope makes it ideal for hiking, biking, and horseback riding — perfect for families, couples, or solo adventurers. The Foster Falls area even offers guided horseback trips, canoe and bike rentals, boat launches, and a charming gift shop. For the most up-to-date park information, visit the official website or call 276-699-6778.
Kent’s Cabin is an inviting retreat for all occasions — a romantic honeymoon hideaway, an anniversary celebration, a birthday getaway, or simply a peaceful escape from daily life. Take a break from the noise and reconnect with what matters most. Relax, slow down, and experience a simpler time in our lovingly preserved historic cabin. Plus, your furry family members are welcome! We provide extra sheets in the laundry room so your well-behaved pets can curl up comfortably, too.
History enthusiasts will be enchanted by this rare structure built from American Chestnut logs — a material now nearly extinct due to blight. The cabin’s origins date back to around 1850, making it one of the oldest standing buildings in Wythe County. Imagine the stories these walls could tell! While the cabin retains its rustic character and architectural charm, it’s also equipped with every modern convenience. A new mini-split system ensures year-round comfort, with individually controlled room temperatures and remote controls for easy adjustment.
In the modern kitchen, you’ll find everything you need to prepare a cozy meal — a full-size electric range, refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and plenty of cookware, dishes, and utensils. Enjoy your meal at the large eat-in kitchen table, perfect for a home-cooked breakfast or a candlelit dinner. We also provide coffee supplies for your first morning, along with basic seasonings, sugar, sweetener, and creamer. A convenient half bath is located just off the kitchen, and there’s an LG washer/dryer with detergent pods for your use. Step out onto the deck and listen to the gentle sounds of Shorts Creek flowing below — a true “babbling brook” experience. You’ll also find a new Blackstone griddle grill for cooking up your favorite steaks or even your own New River catch of the day.
Upstairs, the bedroom’s exposed chestnut logs and antique charm create a warm, romantic atmosphere. There’s a comfortable pillow-topped queen bed dressed in luxury linens, a large walk-in closet, and a full bathroom with a tub/shower combo and plush towels. On rainy nights, drift to sleep beneath the soft patter of raindrops on the metal roof — a sound that guests often describe as magical.
Modern amenities blend seamlessly with the cabin’s old-world charm. You’ll find two 43” HD flat-screen TVs — one in the living room and another in the bedroom — with DirecTV for entertainment. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also provided, though we recommend taking this opportunity to unplug and savor the peace and quiet of mountain life. And to welcome you, we include a complimentary bottle of local wine from the renowned Chateau Morissette Winery in nearby Floyd County.
Easily accessible in every season, Kent’s Cabin is just minutes from major highways, ensuring that even winter visits are worry-free. Many of our guests return again and again, drawn by the tranquility, comfort, and timeless beauty of this one-of-a-kind retreat. We’re proud to have earned the Premier Partner designation from VRBO, with glowing reviews from guests who have made Kent’s Cabin part of their treasured memories.
Come discover the charm, history, and heart of Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Whether you’re seeking adventure on the New River Trail or quiet reflection by the fire, Kent’s Cabin offers the perfect escape. It’s easy to love — and even harder to leave.

Always a cozy stay, regardless of the time of year. Easy access to the New River park, Wytheville, and just away enough from everyone else (without being inaccessible) this is a place I've been to several times in the last year and keep coming back when I need to get away somewhere quiet.
Wonderful, clean, well appointed. Hosts were attentive, welcoming, and available for information. House was old, but well cared for. We would stay again, if available.
We loved our stay! The house was very quaint and quiet, just what we were looking for. The house was very clean and well supplied. Loved listening to the stream by the house and our dogs loved fetching the ball.
I used to visit this area as a child often, as my family lives nearby. I always loved this little log cabin setting on the corner of the road and a creek. Not far from the shot tower, which is a great park, and the New River Trail. To see it on this site for temporary rent was great. I booked it for a pre-holiday stay and it will now be my go-to place. It was so warm and cozy when the temperatures are quite cold outside, and the fact that there’s a full bathroom on the second floor with the bedroom is wonderful. Yes the steps are steep to get to the bedroom, but they’re very doable and you don’t have to come down again till the next morning. It’s a little bit like house on the Prairie, but your little house in the mountains. And the owners are so communicative and lovely. Highly recommend.
Everything just as advertised- super cute place with interesting history. Steep stairs might be tough for anyone with mobility issues but we loved it! Great base for riding New River Trail
We had a great stay at Kent’s cabin. The place was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It was convenient to the New River Trail where we spent several days hiking with our dog. The steps upstairs were steep, but our Lab had no trouble climbing up and down them.
Great place! Owner and caretakers were super friendly and helpful. Easy to get to, but still secluded. Our only neighbor was a friendly cat! Highly recommend.
We enjoyed our stay at Kent’s cabin. Conveniently located close to the New River Trail, this place has received a lot of TLC. The bed is very comfortable, the linens and towels are plush, the kitchen is well stocked, and the fireplace is gorgeous. We have absolutely no complaints. Hoping to get the opportunity to visit again.
We were worn out by lots of company all summer and Fall as well as the holiday crazies so we booked this hideout. Three days of quiet, didn't turn on the TV, exploring local towns and hiking the New River Park Trail were all we needed.
We just loved it! Way beyond our expectations! The cabin was was so very cozy, and everything was just wonderful. The setting was peaceful and tranquil, especially with the stream running along the cabin. The cabin gives you the feel as if you are back in the 1800s, yet had all of the modern conveniences to enjoy and relax with. The complimentary bottle of wine was so nice! We will be back!
Very nice. I could live there. Comfortable and cozy. Right off rt. 52 but couldn't hear anything from inside. Close to a lot of fun things to do. Would go back! Thank you.
Kent’s Cabin was perfect for the two of us. Since we were biking the New River Trail, it was a great location. And only 20 minutes to the charming town of Wytheville.
The cabin was spotless and very cozy. Being a little chilly at night, the gas fireplace was very welcoming.
There was everything we needed in the well stocked kitchen and bathrooms. Hearing the stream flow past the house was a bonus.
Ann and Judi were the perfect hosts. My husband and I would definitely stay here again. We loved everything about it!
Cute old cabin. Kitchen all up to date. Enjoyed cooking in it. I had many nights sitting in front of the fireplace. So very peaceful. Taking a long soak in the good size tub also there was plenty of hot water, never ran out. Also loved that it was only about 1 mile from a winery. Staff welcoming. Sit in front of their fireplace and have a glass.
I view it as a privilege to have stayed in such an old structure that was well maintained and clean with an updated, bright kitchen and all appliances working. The bed upstairs was comfortable with a large walk-in closet and a nice bathroom. The steps to the bedroom were steep, as one might imagine in an old cabin, but the railing was sturdy. The road was close by, but I was not bothered by the traffic. I hope to return again.
This was a cute cabin, and it served my need to hide for a few days and check out of daily life. The 4 days I was there were rainy, so I didn't get to use the patio, but it was there and had a grill & patio furniture, as advertised. In fact, it was all as advertised & I enjoyed staying there. The bed was very comfortable, with a separate TV in the bedroom.
The stairs were a challenge. Let me preface this by explaining that I'm quite short. The stairs were steep, but that wasn't the issue. I had actual problems lifting my short legs high enough to get to the next step. (Honestly, it would've been funny on film!) Similar to hiking, when you have to go from one spot to a higher one, even when you get your foot on the next spot, it can be hard to pull yourself up because your center of gravity is too low. So, you end up using your hands & crawling. Yeah, this was me going up the stairs! I used my hands & the step 2 steps up to get me to the next step. I accidentally got a leg workout. :-)
But, seriously, it's a nice place where you get a leg workout. It has a fully stocked kitchen - pots, pans, utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, mugs - it's all there. My only suggestion is to add disposable cups (or a reusable plastic cup) to the upstairs bathroom. Once I got my short legs upstairs, there's no way I was going down and back up, so I had to hand-scoop water to my mouth to brush and take my meds that first night, but that's minor.
Thanks for a great 4 days - it was a pleasure!
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely historic log cabin. The caretakers were so kind and responsive and made every effort to make our stay comfortable. The location was very convenient to the New River State Park.
What a beautiful cabin. I've never slept by a babbling brook and what a relaxing sound to fall asleep to. The surrounding area is of course beautiful with those fabulous mountain views.
We were grateful for the multiple heating units (one in the kitchen, one in the living room, and one upstairs), for when we arrived on a freezing day, the cabin was nice and toasty! It was awesome having a good chunk of land to walk the dog around, plus it's less than a mile away from the New River Trail, which we were able to walk extensively. The kitchen had everything you need, pans, coffee-maker, fridge/freezer. It truly feels like a cabin experience with all the amenities you're used to at home. The one drawback was based off location - you could hear the traffic from route 77 where we were, so didn't quite fit the "we're the only folks here for miles" vibe we were hoping to get with a cabin getaway. I absolutely cannot fault the owners for this, though! They did truly everything they could to make our stay comfortable.
We enjoyed every moment at Kent’s Cabin! Judi and Ann were the perfect hosts—so warm and welcoming. The cabin was spotless and beautifully maintained, thanks to Ernie and Sabrina. From the inviting front porch rockers to the peaceful brook beside the cabin, everything was thoughtfully designed for comfort and relaxation. The location was ideal for us, and every detail made it feel like a true home away from home. We had everything we needed and more! Hoping to book again for a cozy fall stay
