Great place for the money. Ideal location: walk one direction to town and the other to the park. So, easy access to both with minimal traffic. Place is a bit old and squeaky but in good way, and the value is exceptional. Would definitely stay again!

A great location
This is our first time staying in Bar Harbor that is NOT in a hotel. The location of this home is great - a 10-15 minute walk into town, no hassle trying to park. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds are comfortable. It's great to have a washer and dryer too! We were quite comfortable as a family of 3 in this home.

Clean, wonderful location! We`ve been going to Bar Harbor for years, and I have to say that I love this little neighborhood. It`s tucked away towards the back of the town, but still a very easy walk in to main shopping/dining area. We were able to walk from the house to Dorr Mountain via the Meadow Loop, and extend to Cadillac and back in under a 5 hours. Thank you!

We had an emergency at home and had to cut our stay very short. The owner and Airbnb were very kind and generous. We were so appreciative and grateful. We can’t wait to return to Bar Harbor next year!

Clean Cottage walkable to Main St.
My husband and I and our two young children stayed at the 48 cottage. It was clean, the kitchen had all of the kitchenware we needed, and the neighborhood was quiet. The bedrooms were plenty big and we added a pack n’ play for our youngest with plenty of room to spare. It was nice to have the covered front porch and the main floor laundry.

My husband and I stayed in Bar Harbor for a week over our anniversary. We had a wonderful trip! The house was great. We especially loved the big kitchen and grill outside. We were able to walk to town every day which meant not having to find/pay for parking. Theres very limited parking in Bar Harbor. We can’t wait to come back! Katie was a wonderful host!

This was perfect for our family`s trip to Mount Desert Island. Just a short walk to all the restaurants and shops downtown Bar Harbor, in a quie neighborhood, with access to Acadia National Park just a 10 minute drive away. The first floor was spacious with a huge kitchen and full bath. Second floor has 2 decent sized berooms with comfortable beds and a half bath. Although the place wasn`t too updated, it was clean and comfy!

It was a nice stay. The location of the house is perfect. You can walk to the center of the town. It takes almost 20 minutes. The house is close to the main road of the island. Stairs to the second floor steep. House was nice and clean. It has all appliances and a fully equipped kitchen.

Would not recommend it in its current condition.

This place suited our family well during our stay. The location is an easy walk or bike to the center of Bar Harbor and there is a great park for kids right around the corner. Having the fenced back yard for our dog was great. It is also very easy to get into Acadia Park from the house without having to go through the center of town. About the only negative we found was that the stairs are very creaky so if you have a child or people who are light sleepers that could be an issue. The lack of a full bathroom upstairs was OK for us but for more adults it could be an issue. Otherwise we found it a good place and our communications with the host were smooth and easy.
An older house with some updates (kitchen, main bathroom) and some older house quirks (creaky floorboards, steep staircase, not as many electrical outlets as you would like). But, what this house has going for it is location. It is in a lovely residential neighborhood with one of the best playgrounds I've ever seen nearby for the kids. Best of all, it is within walking distance of downtown Bar Harbor, which allowed us to avoid not only the chaos of driving downtown but also the annoyance of trying to find one of the limited number of parking spaces downtown. Walking was definitely the way to go. For the more adventurous, there's even a trail down the road that you can use to walk into the northeast corner of Acadia National Park (for the less adventurous, park entrances are more like a 5-10 minute drive). The location is really the selling point on this house.
It was great to have a house to stay in that was so close to downtown and a great playground since we had our 2.5 year old with us. But we would never stay in this house again because it needs a lot of work. The house is lacking in decor and just overall upkeep. Holes in walls, toilet tank chipped, mattresses are old. The kitchen was a plus and did come with all the necessary kitchen supplies but there was nothing in the way of seasonings, coffee/tea, or any other little bonuses. This house is pretty bare bones for the price. We will definitely be looking to stay elsewhere next time we stay in Bar Harbor.
It is super basic, I was hoping it would have a bit more charm. I will say it was an AMAZING location and had all the basic things we needed (towels, toilet paper, wash cloths, etc.). FYIs: backyard is not usable, grass was overgrown and just not somewhere you want to hangout if thats important to you. Stairs are very steep, not uncommon for old homes, saying in case someone with bad knees is staying.
Not bad, not great is my honest opinion. I would love for whoever owns this house to fix it up a bit more, the neighborhood deserves better than this!

Disappointed by the home.
Overall, we are very disappointed with the quality of the home. The pictures are very misleading. I'm not sure if the home was recently trashed, but there were patched holes in the walls all over the home, doorknobs barely attached, pretty rough for 3k/week. We've been coming to Bar Harbor for 15 years and understand peak weeks cost more, but we've stayed at other homes that were hundreds more per week that offered a lot more and were in MUCH better condition. I took pictures if you'd like to see them.
Stay away. This is a run down, moldy, musty 100 year old house in desperate need of renovation.
The pictures are very misleading. They don't show the stains, the holes in the walls, the code violating "repairs."
the neighbors told us that the place is used primarily as student housing for the local college, and it looked like it. We paid seventyonehundred for 16 days, which comes to over fourforty day. For that kind of money, you should be able to get someplace nice, right? It makes you wonder why you should bother with sites like VRBO since they obviously didn't provide any vetting. A home renovation company put their sign in front of the house while we were there, so clearly the owners knew it needed renovations; they just wanted to squeeze in one last tenant before they fixed up the place, apparently.

Great location, we walked into town every day and the loop was a short drive away. Quiet, safe neighborhood. Very close to a nice playground and small skate park. We walked by these and the YMCA on our way into town. Kitchen well equipped. Most of what we needed was there. Sink was large enough for the lobster pot, which we used frequently. Some of the furnishings are a bit worn, beds were squeaky, but ok, we had no trouble sleeping. Bedrooms are a good size. A huge plus were the window AC units. Was quite warm when we visited, so we were grateful for the air conditioning units in the 2 bedrooms and living room. Bathrooms are on the small size and well stocked. Shower was great, plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure. Stairs to the 2nd floor (2 bedrooms and half bath), are steep, but we adjusted quickly. Having a washer and dryer available in the basement was a great convenience as well. Great communication throughout the process. Overall a good place to stay if in the area.
Location is the number one asset of this house, easy & pleasant walk to town. All the basics were well stocked, paper towels, soap, garbage bags, toilet paper, dishwashing soap & laundry detergent. The AC while typically not needed, worked well. Communication with management company was very good. The furnishings were perfectly adequate. The house was sufficient for our family as we were out and about most days.
The front porch was lovely but, needs more furniture. There was only a square table and two chairs. No rocking chairs as indicated in the description. A family could not eat out there with our bringing chairs from the dining room. Lighting inside was poor. There were very few working lamps.
The biggest thing that renters need to be aware of are the stairs. They are extremely steep and the steps themselves are very high. While this is typical of older houses, I would be very concerned if I were traveling with children, seniors or anyone with mobility issues.

College House
I usually leave only positive reviews, but I felt compelled to share this to help others. Think of this house as a college rental from 30 years ago—basic and functional, but lacking any comforts or luxuries. The mattresses sag badly, the staircase is steep and unsafe (not suitable for elderly guests), and there are no typical amenities you'd expect for 550 a night—no bathroom rugs, tissues, hair dryer, or even basic furniture like bedside tables. I placed my phone and water on the floor. The house feels worn and outdated. Everything technically works, but it’s far from comfortable. I'm fit and nearly 50, and the bed left me with serious back pain. Even my college-aged kids said it reminded them of their dorm life.On the positive side, the front porch is nice, the neighbors are lovely, and the neighborhood is quiet. Location is GREAT! But the house is in disrepair and needs at least 3,000–5,000 in updates—especially to the mattresses and furniture, then it would be amazing. The backyard was unusable due to the state of the table. The location is great. Would I stay again? Nope. If you are 20 years old, can afford it and don’t care about sagging mattresses, it is perfect. Of note - I attempted to get a refund and leave on the first night, but didn’t hear back for 24 hours, and when I did, they just emailed. No call. They gave me 100 refund.
