Hot Tub | Fire Pit | River | State Park | King Bed
We took notes from "the happiest people on earth" and created the ideal hygge experience for the closest of friends and family to share. Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is a Danish term that refers to a state of being perfectly relaxed, calm and cozy. It embodies the feeling of warmth, comfort, safety and a sense of belonging.
Surrounded by state park and bordered by a mountain and running river, The Hygge House is the ideal place to unplug, engage your senses, and reconnect with what’s important. Just across the street you'll find the entrance to the James River Wildlife Management boat put-in and fishing area.
Meanwhile, snuggle up on the couch in front of the fireplace, grab a hot drink and a good book, or pull out a board game and enjoy some friendly competition over a bowl of popcorn. It’s up to you how you hygge, but know there’s a plush bed and pillow that await you at the end of your day.
This comfort-indulgent getaway wouldn’t be complete without a hot tub on the large back deck, mountain view, or the natural ambiance of a nearby river. If you’re in need of the delightful crackle and cozy glow of a burning flame, outdoor seating by the fire pit is an option as well.
We know you’ll enjoy your time at The Hygge House. Booking won’t be a matter of “if,” it’s just a matter of when.
Happy Hygge!

Such a great place to stay. Had everything you need. Love the theme, made us feel at home. Kids had a blast with the creek and the toys in the kids room. Enjoyed the firepit and the hot tub. Comfy beds. We would love to stay again!

The cabin itself was nice, clean, and in a great location. Unfortunately, our stay was significantly affected by a large amount of Asian beetles throughout the cabin. We lost sleep and even woke up to bugs crawling on us, which made it very difficult to relax or fully enjoy the space.
I did reach out to the host during/after our stay, and while they were responsive and offered a credit, I still have not received it and it has now been two weeks.
It’s truly a nice spot with a lot of potential, but the beetle issue made it impossible to fully relax and enjoy the cabin. I hope this can be addressed for future guests.
We rented this home for a girls' weekend trip, and it was wonderful! I could not have been more pleased. It was the perfect spot to gather and celebrate life (it was my sister's birthday)! It was just as advertised. We found the living space to be comfortable for the 5 of us and the kitchen to be equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals at home.It felt very welcoming as soon as we opened the front door. It was wonderfully decorated. We did not have time to sit down by the firepit and make smores, but next time! The babbling creek on the property was peaceful, and we all wish we had left time to sit out there. It was a bit off the beaten path, but quiet and just what we needed. I do think it would have been tricky to get to in the winter if icy or snowy conditions without the right vehicle. Lots of curvy VA roads and a slightly steep driveway (I have seen steeper in WV and NC!). That would be something to consider in the winter months, but this was the most perfect time with leaves changing colors and the cool mountain temperatures. Lots of activities to keep one busy nearby!I would highly recommend this property.
