Wolf Dome at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, Sleeps two, One Night Minimum

Wolf Dome is a two person glamping dome at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, a few miles from the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center. The Wolf Dome features Wireless Internet, flat screen TV, a picnic table and propane barbecue, year-round heat and AC, a small fridge, microwave, a hot and cold water dispenser, There are two bathrooms, one with a shower and washer-dryer, both shared with renters of the four person Bear Cabin, at the Wendy Hall Welcome Center, about 100 feet away from the Dome.

The Welcome Center is a great place to learn about nature and man’s relationship to nature. You may purchase sweat shirts, tee shirts, books, photographs etc. While the Wildlife Refuge has public visitors during open hours between 10 am and 4 pm, the Refuge is all yours after 4 pm closing, or all day Tuesday and Wednesday, when the Refuge is closed to the Public. Sit around the campfire or walk down to the West Branch of the Ausable River, and use our hot tub, outside wood sauna, and then the strong in spirit can go jump in the lake!

Fish, swim and use our canoes and kayaks along the Ausable, which in this area is also called Lake Everest. Lucky hikers and kayakers have spotted moose, bear, coywolf, fox, fisher and eagles, as well as songbirds and any bird of prey you'll find in the Adirondacks, from owls to hawks to falcons and osprey, in the sloughs, or along the two miles of family friendly hiking trails in the 50 acre Adirondack Wildlife Refuge.

Want to learn all about owls and falcons, and all the members of the food chain, from the micro world of insects, through birds and small mammals, along with the reptiles and amphibians which make up that food chain, and their roles in nature?

Find or call Steve Hall, the owner of the Refuge, who lives in Ausable Lodge, down by the river. Steve has extensive experience with wolves, bears, raptors and moose, and will teach you all about the challenges they face as key members of the food chain. How about outer space, learning about our place in the universe, how old it is and how long we’ve been on earth, livestock and how we developed livestock out of wild animals, and the ongoing insect apocalypse and other fascinating and sometimes scary topics? Glamping with a heavy dose of Nature, and all for a good cause, as all rents are used to fund expenses at the Adirondack Wildlife refuge.

We loved our stay! It’s so close to Whiteface and Lake Placid, which made it the perfect weekend getaway for relaxing, skiing, and going out to dinner. Hoping to return soon!

This was an awesome secluded yurt. We enjoyed the hot tub which was a short drive away. The bathrooms were clean, and the shower pressure was awesome. The bed could have been more comfortable, but it worked. There were lots of amazing places to see and eat. We will definitely consider booking this again when we go to Lake Placid.

This was a neat and unique place to stay. The yurt stayed warm even though it was cold out. The style and decorations inside the yurt were fun. Not so great was a very uncomfortable bed, yurt floor that was dirty, and toilet that looked like it had not been cleaned in a whole.

Great place! Funky little geodesic dome/yurt that was perfect. It got down to -19 and we were perfectly comfortable. Mimosas in the horn the next morning at a balmy 8 with Whiteface in the background, was just the perfect cherry on top.I will say this…if you’re expecting luxury, this is not for you! It’s a cabin/yurt, in the woods. Be realistic!

Unparalleled opportunity. Landmark wildlife refuge seeking next generation owners to lovingly carry on the vision.

Secluded and quiet. Love being in the middle of the mountains with few people around listening to the sounds of nature. The yurt was clean and simple, but classically decorated, stayed warm even through the chill outside. The bed is hard but surprisingly slept great on it despite that. Owner is communicative and answered questions in detail that I had. Will come back for sure.

If you want to stay in nature then this place cannot be beat. Comparable to glamping and the animals are well cared for and neat to see. Steve was attentive and communicated with us about a change with the amenities very promptly. It’s rustic and that’s just how we like it. :)

Although the the dome is located on beautiful woodsy property, it isn’t exactly as advertised. We found the floor to be really dirty, could not walk around without shoes on. There is not as much wildlife on the property as listed. We saw the animals inside, and a pig and chickens outside. The hot tub was very clean. There is a great view on the river. Overall, not for everyone I guess it depends what you’re there for.

This property was totally misrepresented on VRBO. The Wolf Dome was dirty and full of mildew, the bed was so uncomfortable we couldn’t stay the second night. We will be requesting a full refund.

This property was not what was showcased on VRBO. The washroom is not connected to the dome/ cabin.it is a shared washroom with the bear cabin and other visitors. It is a good 2-3 min walk from the dome till the animal refugee shelter and it stinks of animals. The hot tub is also extremely far and deep inside the property(3min drive from the dome) with not much privacy. The wolf dome itself was very unclean from inside. There is a weird moist smell and webs everywhere and it seems like it hasn’t been cleaned in quite a long time. I hope everything is atleast written in the description so people know what they are booking. With the snow and everything slippery, washroom trips were the most inconvenient.

The property is beautiful. The host is very nice. The Wolf Dome is larger inside than it looks on the outside. The TV, Water cooler, microwave, and fridge work wonderfully. The ceiling fan is delightful. Loved all the little details in the decoration. You do have a short distance to walk to the the bathrooms. . The 1 big step to climb to get into the Fome takes a lot of upper leg strength to climb up if you are 5'
