"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all...

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful hotel set in nice grounds. The main building used to be a palace. We were allocated a room in the adjoining building. When we first arrived, we were told that they were full, despite us having booked in advance. But this was soon sorted out. Our room was clean and tidy and spacious. It had a slanted ceiling right above the bed, so we had to be careful getting in and out. The wifi was not very strong in the room but luckily we did not really need it for anything special. The restaurant offered a buffet or the a la carte menu. The buffet looked a bit lacking so we chose the menu and the food was excellent. We can highly recommend the pork schnitzel and the salmon. Parking free and on site. All in all, a lovely place to stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Wildenborten?
The best area to stay in Wildenborten is the Wildenborten village centre, particularly around Marktstrasse and the area near the St. Martin's Church.

This area is the heart of Wildenborten, offering a mix of traditional Thuringian architecture and easy access to local amenities. It's quite compact and walkable, with several guesthouses and a few local eateries. The village centre is where you'll find the most character and convenience.

For couples looking for a quiet retreat, staying in the village centre is ideal. You'll be close to places for gentle strolls, such as the pathways leading to the surrounding orchards, and can easily enjoy a relaxed evening at a local restaurant. The historic church and its surroundings provide a pleasant backdrop for a peaceful holiday.

Families might also find the village centre appealing due to its central location and proximity to local parks and open spaces.
When is the best time to go to Wildenborten?
The best time to visit Wildenborten is typically during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is mild and the natural beauty of the Thuringian Forest is at its most appealing.

For those who appreciate comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, May and June offer pleasant conditions with blooming flora. The days are long, allowing for extended exploration of the surrounding countryside and nearby historical sites. This period is also ideal for enjoying the local cafes and outdoor dining experiences.

Alternatively, September and October provide a beautiful backdrop of autumnal colours across the forests, making it particularly picturesque for scenic drives and photography. The air is crisp, and it's a good time to experience local harvest festivals if your visit coincides.
