About this property

A Cozy Alaska Escape Near Hatcher Pass — Hot Tub, Northern Lights & River Views

  • Summary:

There is something special about coming in from a crisp Alaska day, brushing the snow from your boots, and stepping into a cabin that immediately makes you want to slow down.

Welcome to Rustic River Retreat, a peaceful riverfront cabin designed for guests who want to experience the beauty and adventure of Alaska without giving up comfort.

Outside, Hatcher Pass, skiing, mountain scenery, wildlife, and winter adventure are just minutes away.

Inside, everything feels warm, calm and inviting.

Soft, soothing colors, comfortable furnishings, cozy bedrooms, and windows filled with nature create the kind of place where you can truly settle in and exhale.

    The Space:

    - Adventure by Day. Comfort by Night -

Spend the day skiing or snowboarding at Skeetawk, snowshoeing through Hatcher Pass, exploring snowy mountain roads, or simply taking in the incredible winter scenery of the Mat-Su Valley. Then come home to warmth. Curl up on the heated and massaging couch, put your feet up, watch the snow fall outside the windows, and let yourself relax. The cabin was created to feel comfortable rather than complicated — a place where evenings are just as memorable as the adventures that brought you here.

    - Nature Is Just Outside Every Window -

One of the most beautiful things about this cabin is how connected you feel to the outdoors even when you're inside.

Look out almost any window and Alaska is there waiting for you — the Little Susitna River, snow-covered trees, mountains, changing skies, and the quiet movement of nature around the property. You may find yourself lingering over morning coffee simply watching the river. At night, the view becomes even more magical.

    - Watch the Northern Lights From Bed -

On clear, active nights, you don't necessarily have to bundle up and drive somewhere to look for the aurora. Both bedrooms have views toward the northern sky, so you may be able to watch the Northern Lights from the warmth of your room. There is something unforgettable about waking up in the middle of the night, glancing toward the window, and seeing ribbons of green moving across the Alaska sky. Or step outside, wrap up in a blanket, and enjoy the show from the property. Better yet, watch for them while soaking in the hot tub.

    - Your Own Private Hot Tub Beside the River -

After skiing, hiking, sightseeing, or simply exploring Alaska, slip into the warm water of your private outdoor hot tub overlooking the Little Susitna River and surrounding mountains. Feel the cold Alaska air on your face while the water keeps you warm. Listen to the river. Watch snow drift through the trees. Look toward the mountains. And on the right night, look up and watch the aurora dance overhead. It is the kind of moment that often becomes the favorite memory of the trip.

    - Bedrooms Made for Rest -

A great Alaska adventure deserves an equally good night's sleep. We have placed a strong emphasis on comfort, including comfortable, quality mattresses that make it easy to settle in after a full day outside. The spacious primary suite features a king-size bed, vaulted ceilings, beautiful views of the river and mountains, and a private bath with a custom walk-in shower. The queen loft bedroom sits on the opposite side of the cabin, creating a sense of privacy for two couples or a small family. Both rooms feel peaceful and inviting, with nature just beyond the windows and the possibility of Northern Lights overhead.

    - Cozy Without Feeling Rustic in the Wrong Ways -

Rustic River Retreat has the character of an Alaska log cabin, but the inside is intentionally soft, comfortable and calming.

The color palette is soothing. The furniture invites you to stay awhile. The kitchen is updated and fully equipped. The living spaces are warm and welcoming. And thoughtful touches throughout the cabin make it easy to relax from the moment you arrive. This is a place to cook breakfast slowly, linger over coffee, take an afternoon nap, enjoy a long soak, watch a movie together, or simply sit quietly and appreciate where you are.

    - Close to Hatcher Pass, Palmer & Wasilla -

The cabin gives you the peaceful feeling of being tucked away in Alaska while still keeping you close to everything you may want during your stay. Hatcher Pass is nearby for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, winter sightseeing and some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the Mat-Su Valley. Palmer and Wasilla are also an easy drive for restaurants, coffee shops, groceries, local shopping, holiday events, festivals and seasonal activities. During the winter months, the Valley comes alive with local celebrations, Christmas events, sled-dog activities and the excitement surrounding Iditarod season.

You can spend the day experiencing Alaska, then leave the crowds behind and come home to your quiet cabin on the river.

Fall Is Beautiful Here Too. Fall brings its own kind of magic.

The mountains and trees turn gold, the air becomes crisp, summer crowds begin to disappear, and darker evenings mean the return of aurora season.

Explore Hatcher Pass during the day, come home to the hot tub in the evening, and watch the river and mountains change with the season.

A Place to Experience Alaska — and Truly Unwind

Rustic River Retreat isn't just a place to sleep between adventures.

It is part of the experience.

It's waking up to nature outside your bedroom window.

It's coming home cold and tired and sinking into a heated couch.

It's climbing into a comfortable bed after a full Alaska day.

It's listening to the river while soaking in the hot tub.

It's looking out the window and realizing the Northern Lights are dancing above the trees.

And sometimes, it's doing absolutely nothing at all.

Whether you're coming to ski Hatcher Pass, chase the Northern Lights, experience Alaska in winter, enjoy a romantic getaway, or simply escape somewhere peaceful, this is a place where you can experience the wild beauty of Alaska while still feeling completely at home.

    Come for the adventure.

Stay for the quiet moments in between.
