Exactly what our large family needed. Plenty of space and beds. Even a toy closet for the little ones. The hosts were so sweet and put up the baby gate, high chair, and pack-n-play.
Despite the extremely cold weather we had a great time. Some short hikes and a short fire. The house was clean , beds comfortable and the hosts were very helpful
We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely house. Such thoughtful touches by the hosts to make us welcome and provide for our comfort—we would happily return!
The six of us had a wonderful stay. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and there was plenty of room for us to gather together as well as have our own spaces when we needed time to ourselves. I highly recommend this property near Itaska State Park as well as Park Rapids for shopping and great eateries.
Very relaxing setting in the woods to unwind for a time away from the busy-ness of regular day to day. The hous was very clean. We had a very pleasant stay. The hostess was very easy to work with. We would be happy stay again!
This home was the perfect get away to meet my parents for a long weekend. Tucked in the woods, it was full of charm and had everything we needed. I loved how clean it was and the way it was beautifully decorated. Thank you Barb for being an excellent host and communicating with us.
Our family of 6 enjoyed our stay very much where there was plenty of room for all of us, everything was clean and well cared for, and the home had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The property has beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy. Barbara was very welcoming and helpful - thank you for sharing your property!
6 of us came up to explore greater MN and celebrate my husband's 67th birthday, we had a blast and were pleasantly surprised at the luxurious accommodations' when we arrived!
Would highly recommend to others and definitely book again!
Loved this property! The home is beautiful and welcoming. Secluded in the trees it provided the glamping experience near the park and nature activities we were looking for! Enough space to fit two families comfortably and a kitchen space we adored! The fire pit was a great way to end the night with s’mores!
We loved our stay! We had a large group (4 adults and 4 kids between the ages of 5 and 13) and there was plenty of room for everyone. Barbara was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. We spent our days in Itasca State Park and took advantage of the spacious kitchen to prepare meals and hang out in the evenings. Our whole crew usually stays in a vrbo each August and this might be our favorite one yet!
The property managers were extremely friendly and hospitable. The property was well maintained in a gorgeous setting not far from town and activities. Plenty of room to spread out and relax with all of the amenities of a comforting home.
We've been coming to Park Rapids for several years over the 4th of July week. This year we were so happy to stay here because it had everything we needed and it was so clean and beautifully decorated! It had alot of space & wonderful porches & yard! We had a great time and would come back again. Loved it!
The house is extremely comfortable, with good-sized bedrooms, comfortable seating, and a well-stocked kitchen. The hosts are friendly and very responsive. The house is located in a wooded area close to Itasca State Park and Park Rapids -- a wonderful location. The only suggestion our group has was that the hosts remove the plug-in fragrances throughout the house before guests arrive since some people have fragrance sensitivities (we unplugged them and that took care of the issue). Otherwise, it was a wonderful property, location, and stay in the Minnesota woods!
Flowers and Gardens, decks and 3 season porch, spacious rooms, immaculate and decorated adorably, comfy furniture and beds, fire pit patio looking up towards the moon and stars, tree lined driveway and yard. Everything you need to satisfy a much needed get away with family, even the high rise toilets and whirlpool tub was a hit!
Our up north vacation was complete because of this home away from home. We will be back for sure!
I booked this home for an extended family vacation to Lake Itasca. I chose Larry and Barbara's because it seemed like the best place when compared to the other local choices. But I had no idea *how* great it would be until we checked in!! We had a marvelous time, and wished we could have spend more days in!! If you're looking for a quiet place with kind hosts, plenty of beautiful and tidy rooms, and a vacation to remember, pick this one!
Larry and Barbara were perfect hosts for this home secluded in the woods just north of Park Rapids, MN. It’s their personal home and it is very well maintained. The bedrooms and living areas were very comfortable and created a great environment for family get-togethers. We used their pellet-fueled BBQ grill for dinner one night and enjoyed using their fire pit just outside by the driveway and the trees. It’s just a short 20 minute drive to Itasca State Park. They had a large screen TV in the bottom floor that was great for a family movie night. Highly recommend their home for a vacation!
When the kids were younger, we were frequent visitors to Itasca State Park. As a birthday wish, my now grown daughter asked the whole family to return for a reunion-type visit.
There were 7 of us in total and this house was fantastic! I prepared hobo dinners in the kitchen and the kids roasted marshmellows on the open firepit.
Thanks for opening your home to us. Highly recommended.
This home was everything my four sisters and I could have hoped for - and then some! It was clean, inviting, and beautiful! The kitchen was very well-equipped, and we didn't even have to buy coffee filters! What was especially impressive is that the host contacted me in advance to see if we planned to use the pull-out bed in the lower level and the bed on the four-season porch so that she could have them all made up for us (which she did!). The house is very roomy - whether you're gathering in the living room, the kitchen/dining room, or the lower level family room. We loved the four season porch and the two decks. It was also very conveniently located - just a few miles from the town of Park Rapids with its wonderful little downtown and shops, not to mention some great restaurants. (Thanks for the recommendations, Barbara!) We also drove just 10 miles north of Park Rapids to Itasca State Park, where you can see the headwaters of the Mississippi and literally walk across the river! They have a beautiful and educational Visitors Center and lots of walking paths. I cannot recommend this property highly enough! We usually go to a different destination every year for our Sisters' Trip, but if we decide to go back to the Park Rapids area, we'll definitely try to stay here!!
From the moment we drove on this property, we felt right at home. The house is in clearing that is totally surrounded by trees, giving you those 'up north' vibes. There is a very nice fire pit area to sit back and take in the beauty and enjoy a campfire.
The house is spacious but yet has a cozy feel to it. Every nook and cranny is decorated with unique pieces. The bedrooms are roomy and the beds/bedding comfortable. An enclosed sunroom with an attached covered deck was a great way to start the day and have our coffee.
The kitchen is well equipped if you plan on cooking. We only stayed over a weekend, and there are plenty of excellent eating places in the area. Most importantly, the house is super clean!
Speaking of food, dining out is fabulous. Friday night we ate at Clancy's (a recommendation by our hosts, it's on quiet Island Lake), Saturday morning at the Logging Camp that serves a family-style breakfast of eggs, sausage or ham, hash browns and all you can eat pancakes. A short ride for dinner took us to the tiny town of Dorset to Cabaneros that serves authentic Mexican cuisine. Sunday morning we ate breakfast at West 40 in Park Rapids. Check out downtown Park Rapids. Lots of fun stores!
It was a pleasure to meet Larry and Barbara. You don't find nicer or more sincere hosts! If you don't want the crowded space of a hotel room, this is the place for you. We loved this property and hope to stay there again--only next time for a longer period.
