About this property
Long View Farm on Broad Bay
This 1840 barn has beautiful light and an open airy feel. Filled with local antiques collected over 35 years of Maine living, it is both rustic and elegant. The ambiance invites you back to a simpler era of reading, board games and badminton. It is perfect for extended families or old friends to get together. Walk to the water, picnic in the field, bicycle down the quiet road or just hang out on the porch and watch the sun set.
Dutch Neck is a peninsula jutting into one of the last pristine bays on the mid-coast of Maine. Feast on local lobster or dine in one of many great local restaurants. Bring your boat because there is a paved launch ramp just down the street. The fishing is great.
Waldoboro is on the Medomak River, at Muscongus Bay. It was originally a German settlement and was known for its local shipyards, which built five-masted schooners in the 19th century. Waldoboro is within easy reach of the Midcoast towns of Pemaquid, Damariscotta, Boothbay, Freeport and Portland to the south and Rockland, Rockport, Camden and Belfast to the north.

Rustic Countryside Stay - with some concerns
Three adults, one teenager & two dogs stayed for the week at Eric's barn. It is very rustic with a 10min walk across the street to the bay for kayaking and swimming at high tide. There is also a pond called Peter's Pond up the road to swim; a very beautiful place surrounded by nature. It was worth the 20min hike - great swimming! There is a binder that Eric provided with places to eat and things to do. The owner lives across the street - which can be nice but was also a little overbearing. It was to the point where he was snooping in the windows... Initially, we enjoyed our stay, but did have some concerns with management. Eric offered in emails that we could bring my daughter's two border collies. When we arrived he forgot about the dogs and he and his wife made us feel very uncomfortable. His wife confronted us when we arrived back at the home and stated her husband "must have taken pity" on us, even though HE had offered to allow the dogs. The dogs were well behaved, although sometimes bark, and went most places with us. We did feel unwelcome after this confusion, although they allowed us to stay with the dogs and apologized after the fact.
In regards to the home, the place was a little warm as it was a hot summer week and could definitely use some more fans. There is also no privacy at night. None of the windows have blinds or shades. Even being in the country it would have been nice to have some privacy. All the furnishings are quite old and antique, which is interesting but could use some updating. Most of the sofas and chairs were ripped and stained. They could use some new blankets as well.
Overall, the home is very large and comfortable. If you are looking for a simple, rustic stay, this home is perfectly acceptable.
Just leave the dogs at home!
My overflow guests (5 adults) stayed at the farm house. They said they found whatever they needed easily. The owner was available and helpful when we had questions. Overall, it went smoothly and they really enjoyed their stay.
We booked this home for our sons wedding weekend in nearby Jefferson. We used the house for rehearsal dinner and for the bride to get ready morning of the wedding. It was picturesque & simple perfect. We couldn’t have asked for more!!
Would love to visit again for a more relaxing staycation!!! Highly recommend!
We were 3 couples traveling through the NE area. This property was perfect for our day trips to coastal villages and harbors. We each had large bedrooms and enjoyed the porch in the mornings before we headed out each day. The spacious living areas were comfortable for everyone in the evenings. We walked to the water one afternoon (not a short walk!) and enjoyed the rocks and view. Encountered a flock of turkeys on the path both ways!
Charming, spacious and lots of sleeping options. Shampoo and body soap was not provided which was a bit of a surprise but otherwise, we had everything we needed.
We had a VERY relaxed vacation in surroundings filled with an interesting mix of old time living, with modern conveniences. The owner was accessible and informative and there was an easy walk to an inlet...highly recommend this property.
You will be staying in a very comfortable converted barn-home, far from the tourist traps and congestion, surrounded by quiet farms, and a short walk to a beautiful pebbled cove. This is a place for renewal, rest, and a taste of genuine rural coastal Maine living - $10 lobster procured at a nearby marina. The hosts are generous and gracious, available but not hovering. The kitchen is well-equipped and the bedrooms and bathrooms superb. I hesitate to recommend it too much because I don't want it to get so popular that it's not available in the future.
My family of 8 (2 adults, 6 kids ages 2-10yo) fit more than comfortably in this charming home! The lovely owners are just across the street and generously made themselves available if anything was needed. The main floor layout is open with lots of space to eat meals. The 2nd floor bedrooms are large (we easily fit three pack n plays set up in one of the rooms), and the loft is perfect for older kids. The home has a charming authentic farmhouse feel, with antiques and thoughtful touches. With so many young children we did not want to be on the water, but were glad to be in a location with many harbors, towns, and activities a relatively short drive away.

Wonderfully appointed, family-friendly place to vacation
What a wonderful week. The location is great (close to water, nice grounds, many awesome adventures within 30 min drive). The house itself was outstanding. It was by far the nicest rental we've had. All of us wanted to move in permanently or recreate the exact same home in our year-round locations. The artwork and furniture were shockingly nice for a rental but also totally approachable. We didn't worry about breaking stuff (we were careful of course) but felt treated to rustic luxury accommodations. It was a treat.
We'd certainly stay here again when traveling with a group. The place was spacious and comfy. Well done.

Rustic but well appointed space
This ox barn conversion is quite unique and has everything you need. Hosts were friendly and available across the street. The open kitchen, dining, living space with a cathedral ceiling towards the front of the house makes it very comfortable for a group up to 8 adults and there are plenty of bathrooms. The decor is quite creative yet simple. A screened in porch was relaxing in the mornings while having a first cup of coffee—nice comfortable beds, sheets and pillows. Kitchen was well stocked. Lots of books everywhere too.
The only less attractive aspects were the lack of shades to block the sun and no option for air conditioning which made the house extremely hot and humid on many days. More fans were brought in to mitigate the heat, and the nights were cooler, but a/c s for backup were necessary during this particular week Also the water pressure upstairs was minimal, and it was only possible to really shower in one bathroom. The impression given on the property description was that swimming was excellent and easily accessible, but this proved to be an exaggeration, as there was no pebble beach but a very rocky inhospitable area that was at least a 15 minute strenuous walk, which was not possible for some family members. We drove to the very lovely Pemaquid Beach about 30 minutes away and swam there, took a boat ride to see seals in their natural habitat, had good lobster and delicious ice cream at Round Top Farm—so many flavors!

Perfect location to relax and get to a wedding!
We were delighted with our stay in this rustic and charming home! We did a lot of exploring of the area and it was always nice to come home to 'the barn'. We, two senior couples, began our days with coffee in the sun room and ended there with sunset drinks. What a lovely area to take a brisk walk, either to the boat landing or all the way to the end at Butter Point. Folks who lived along the road were delightful. Owner Eric was very quick with his responses when I made the reso about a year ago. We didn't do any cooking, but the kitchen had everything one would need to do so. We really enjoyed the town of Rockland, it's museums and a great bakery!! Great tour of the perfectly preserved old Farnsworth home and great exhibits in the museum, including three generations of Wyeths. If I could only figure out how to make California closer to Maine, we would stay at the barn every year!! Thank you, Eric!!

The Way Maine Once Was...
Once in a while you come across a summer rental owned and operated by someone interested in more than just providing their tenants with shelter, a working microwave, a few nice wine glasses and a comfortable bed. Rare is a rental anchored by a commitment to preserving an actual experience. But this is that sort of find, not just a structure but an experience, one informed by attributes of the surrounding landscape and community that, though faced with the inexorable forces of change, are part of something that people like these owners are fighting to retain. How fortunate for us...
This is the place for you if you are a person who enjoys being surrounded by the quiet timelessness of rural, seafaring Maine. Part of this experience is the location of the property…down a country road on a peninsula in Midcoast that mixes the nearby hustle and bustle of town with long, sloping, open views of bays and fields. But the balance is supported by the old Oxen Barn space itself, the eclectic and tasteful articles chosen for furnishing the rooms and the gorgeous bit of land that surrounds it and extends across the road to the coastline.
My wife and our two young children were enchanted by the moments we had together during our week here…and though school and work have now intruded on our memories, there is a part of us that will always be reading together on the porch, sailing a frisbee over the freshly mown field, sailing across the unspoiled bay or enjoying a quiet, candlelit dinner on the rough-hewn farm table in front of the soaring barn windows. Kudos to the owners of this property for giving the rest of us the opportunity to experience Maine as it once was, and how we hope a part of it will always be.

Perfect Art Retreat
This is a well cared for property with so much charm and character and space. My group of 8 women artists had room to work indoors and out, to sleep, cook and relax. It is really unusual and the surrounding towns and countryside provided everything we wanted, from great food to good painting subjects.

If we were smart, we'd keep it to ourselves...
...but that would be unfair to the owner of this wonderful property, which is just as lovely in person as it is in the photos. We stayed at the barn for a week in early summer recently, and had such a relaxing, pleasant time that I felt sad to close the door behind me on the last day. This is truly impressive considering that we were a party of two families with four boys under the age of five among us. The boys were enchanted by the yard and by the water (which is everywhere around you in this place) and we were able to combine short day trips to kid-friendly locations with relaxing evenings at the house, enjoying a little wine and cooking for ourselves while the kids watched a movie in the sitting room.
The barn, itself, is absolutely charming. The folks who serve as the caretakers literally appeared in the driveway as we were stepping out of our car and made themselves available at all times, offering generous help and advice. The owner's recommendations were also very useful and you absolutely cannot miss the lobster down at Broad Cove Marina. We sat there on a sunny day with our boys and showed them their first lobster meal right on the water. It was totally memorable.
If you want to feel like you've escaped the stress of your life and you want little more than to look at a lush view, hear the birds, and unplug from it all, this is a great place in which to do it. And there is still a grocery store, pizza, ice cream...just minutes away. We are grateful for for a week we will always remember.

We Fell In Love with Maine and this House
Our extended family stayed in this property the last week of July 2010. The property is beautiful, spacious and gives you the true "summering" in Maine experience. The house is an old ox barn and is tastefully decorated and has all the amenities and comforts that you would want. The walk to the river is through a sloping field and the boat ramp is also close by. Great for canoeing and kayaking. The area is great for biking too. Waldoboro is centrally located to so many things, you definitely will want to come back again and again. After staying in this property we want to come back again and again.
