  • City of Wakkanai can be seen from Wakkanai Park which is up the hill or from Centennial Tower which offers a clear view of entire city and also the island of Rishiri. While Wakkanai was just a getaway to the island of Rishiri and Rebun I had a very pleasant stay here. It is quiet and clean with the freshest air! While there isn't much other than a fishing industry here it is here I realized that Japanese had it good as a citizen more than any other parts of the world. We know there are inequalities as a citizen in most part of the world in that the richer cities or sectors of a country will have it better than others in term of basic infrastructure and communal facilities. Not so much in Japan though, even the most remote places its citizen enjoys the same basic services as other parts of the country. That's quite a feat as far as I am concerned. One won't feel one is lacking even if one is few thousand miles away from the core of civilization (as in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto). I think that sums up why Japanese are contented and law abiding no matter where they live! They even queue for basic necessities after a tsunami where they have lost everything they possess! No other country has such discipline and order in its citizens!

Property itself is very outdated. However, location is right in front of the gorgeous view. Great spot for watching sunrise, nice walk etc.

At first, I'll honest, when we arrive by foot from the train station I was worried. The building looked very run down. It is a very simple Inn, no frills, except the breakfast, which you must prearrange, and it is a very delicious japanese style breafast. The rooms are charming, true Japanese style rooms, if you have a hard time getting up from the floor I suggest going elsewhere. Now I know I said it seemed run down from the outside but after being there for a bit I realzed every thing in the area seemed that way, its due to the extremely harsh weather condition they can get. I would stay there again.

Dirty room with insects. Receptionist can only speak Japanese. Breakfast from 7.00-8.00, very short duration.

I arrived early and was told was too early which was fine. I felt increasingly uneasy waiting around, the vibe heavy, and overall, didn't feel safe (the ONLY time I felt this in Japan, not because of the locals but because of visitors.) I did not check in at all and left Wakkanai later the same day, taking the only train left back to Sapporo. Walked for a couple miles in town (by train station) crossed paths with literally only 2 people. The town empty, no noodle shops, no bentos, no sushi, thankfully a Seico Shop. Lastly the Shrine in town was labeled "do not enter, private property". That about covers it. Only plus side, knowing that I was on northern most part of Japan. (Have loved every other place & experience in this most beautiful country!)

稚内駅から直線で駅近です。館内は禁煙ではないものの、消臭が行き届いているようで、室内のにおいはあまり気にならなかったです。朝食は個別に配膳されていて、和食であっさり美味しくいただきました。24時間利用可能なシャワー2つの浴場があり、0時頃に利用しましたが、他に利用者はいませんでした。スタッフは親切丁寧に対応してくださいました。

禁煙の部屋がないとの事でしたので、前日に消臭対応をお願いしておきました。エアコンも、お布団も、灰皿を置いてある部屋とは思えない、全くタバコの臭いがありませんでした。きちんと対処して下さり嬉しかったです。
