This tower is in fact the bell tower of the Clérigos Church and once was the highest building in Portugal. The panoramic view from upthere is the most complete from Porto and well worth the 230+ steps’ climb. A vez anterior em que visitei a estação, alguns painéis de azulejos estavam em trabalho de restauro. Nesta última visita verifiquei, com satisfação, que o trabalho tinha sido concluído e pude assim contemplar os painéis em todo o seu esplendor. Maybe São Bento Station is the most beautiful railway station in Portugal. The previous time I visited the station, some tile panels were in restoration work. On this last visit, I noticed with satisfaction that the work had been completed and I was able to contemplate the panels in all their splendor.
