A friend mentioned Vieques to me years ago, & I knew that when we finally went to PR, the island would be my final destination. I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into, but excited to have the opportunity to be on a small island that allowed for exploration & was known for its beautiful beaches.
We had a difficult time booking our place for this stay. We had chosen a different property and it fell through. Not super happy with VRBO's handling of that, but we were fortunate enough to find Coconut Cay to save the day!
A short ride from the ferry, the house itself is lovely and spacious. The turquoise blue on the exterior pops & gives a lovely island feel. The living area has lots of space & is open and airy. Along the hallway, the bedrooms & bathrooms also had room to move around comfortably. There are games & books in the living room and doors that open to the patio/pool area, that has a small charcoal grill. The best part of this home though is when you walk outside! There is nothing that can beat the gorgeous view of the ocean! We actually ended up spending our first day of vaca just lounging in the pool & taking it all in. Just wow - it truly made it hard to leave! Watch your head for falling coconuts on the patio!
As avid animal lovers, we also loved that there were horses in the yard and the pack of dogs that ran the neighborhood. Vieques has had a drought since January, so we really felt bad for them, and put out water and treats. Just keep in mind that horses mean horse poop too, and there is some in the yard. I personally couldn't smell it though, so it was not a deal breaker!
Nikki was great, answering any questions I had prior to booking. Lucy, the property manager was efficient, though a bit brusque. We actually did not get any instructions for our arrival until after we contacted Nikki on the day of check in, so that was a bit odd. We did have an ant infestation in the house & Lucy had an exterminator there within 30 minutes to take care of the issue. There are some minor things that could stand to be updated with the house, and some more amenities that would be nice, such as more spices than salt, more beach towels, etc., but overall, we'd be super happy to stay here again. Internet was a bit choppy, but such is island life (PS, no Verizon tower on the island). We also received a call from the owners upon our return, & really appreciated that. Can't wait to see as they update the property even more in the future!
