Room clean, shower hot and full working air conditioning. Coffee and a kettle and good working fridge as I have meds that need to be kept cool. Breakfast buffet cover all bases, both local and western food.

Right in the middle of the riverfront, this French colonial–style gem is one of my favorite hotels anywhere. The courtyard and pool are stunning, and most rooms come with big balconies overlooking the peaceful setting. Evenings are a treat too—their drink menu is surprisingly sophisticated for Laos and makes winding down after a day of exploring even better.

Our room was one of the nicer ones and had a great view. The bed was comfy and there were a selection of pillows. It was on the 4th floor however and no elevator, so be prepared for that
