When we arrived, everything was there waiting for us. The beautiful loan in front of the cabin lead us to the front porch, dry logs were ready to start the fire. Robins and Blue Jays kept us company almost all the time. The stream murmured quietly nearby. For us, New Yorkers, it was like visiting different world. Serene, green and far from it all. The wood stove brought back memories from our childhood, when cooked food kept it’s temperature for long time and the smoky aromas didn’t allow to forget many special flavors.
The owner, Richard, one of the most pleasant hosts we’ve ever met, occasionally visited us to see if we need more wood or anything at all. It was certainly helpful and above all, his visits were very informative. His advices helped us to visit interesting places in the area and to locate special books in his library.
Finally, advice for our fellow travelers: it is a cabin in the woods surrounded with nature, so it is good to expect exactly that. Wood stove and cast iron fire place add to the charm of the cabin. For some visitors, keeping the fire on may prove to be challenging, so make sure you are up to the challenge.
We’ll certainly cherish the memories of our quiet time in Vershire Vermont and if time permits, we’d gladly stay at Richard’s cabin again.
