Good service, good a/c, comfortable beds, nice pool, but bathrooms could have been nicer and wifi didn't work in our room. Somewhat noisy in the mornings due to on-site restaurant/neighboring rooms.
The Deshadan Cliff & Beach Resort was as promised with all amenities including free wifi, parking and swimming pool.
The rates were slightly on the higher side owing to the holidayyum season but still not exorbitant for the amenities offered. Location was perfect and at walking distance from the beach and cliff. The rooms were clean and spacious enough with private washroom and all essential toiletries provided. Air conditioning too was fine as was the television with required channels available. The wifi was a tad slow to be honest especially inside the rooms but manageable.
The free buffet breakfast was quite a decent spread and had a mix of South Indian and continental. The food otherwise too was tasty albeit a bit on the higher side as far as prices were concerned.
The staff were all extremely friendly and more than willing to help out with a smile, whenever required. Dealing with each and every one of them was pleasant.
Overall, an excellent and relaxing stay.
Very nice compact hotel.. near rooms good food.. only suggestions pl provide a proper route map to reach the hotel from say Kollam or Kochi. Google maps takes you to very bad roads along beach if you are self driving
This is a great option for Varkala beach. Super friendly staff and decent, spacious bedrooms. Great breakfast, not the same every day. Fresh fruit juice, healthy stuff. Smooth check-in and check out. Pool hours should really be reviewed, it is too restrictive to tell guests in a destination like Varkala Beach that pool access is not possible after 6pm. Really hoping to go back soon.

A great location at a relatively low cost
We loved staying in Varkala, the Deshadan is a great location, just 5 mins off the main beach and restaurant area. A fabulous beach!! Highly recommend My Place restaurant, Tika Masala and fish in banana leave we’re particularly good! Accommodation great for a relatively low cost hotel with A/C & fan, breakfast included. The only enhancement would have been a in-room safe.
A nice hotel with friendly staff. The breakfast staff were very helpful in particular. The room was good but make sure you get one close to the pool as the ones at the front of the hotel near the road are grotty. A five minute walk to the beach.
Great value for money, best we've stayed in so far in India. Nice pool, fantastic staff, good food in the restaurant.
A little jaded but aren't we all? Wifi good when it worked but was a little temperamental. All in all a great stay, would highly recommend
Overall our stay was very enjoyable. The room was large and clean with a seating area, TV and very comfortable bed. The pool and surrounding area were kept very clean as well.
Staff were polite although service a little slow.
Only complaint is the food. We ordered pasta one night which was full of garlic skin. Another morning I ordered cereal and was presented with a bowl but told they thought it was bad - I tried one piece in front of them as that's what it seemed like they were waiting for me to do, it was indeed bad. I asked for toast instead and the first lot we were given was mouldy. And the fruit in the morning tasted strongly of onion.
The food is what lets what would be a very nice hotel down.
We booked this one in advanced.. bad desiscion. We paid the roon and didnt sleep here, because of the room and the atmosphere of the hole resort where terrible. You can find much better Hotels near the cliff for way better price.
Excellent staff and facilities, great location .
The food was far superior to what is available at beach.

OK for India
Reasonable overall. Dated rooms, outdoor breakfast seemed quite unhygienic with ants everywhere, usual egg and rubbishy toast with nescafe or lukewarm tea. Very helpful staff lent us power adaptors and basically let us check out much later than the published time which was useful. Bags left there all day with no problems.
We stayed at the Deshshdan Cliff and Beach Resort for one night as a stop over for a night before heading to Kovalam for the final stay. The hotel is rather dated and rooms a bit crammed around a small swimming pool. It is OK for a one night stay as the location is ideal to walk to Varkala beach (a couple of hundred meters) to see the sunset in the evening and have a drink while taking in the view.
It was quiet and pleasant stay, had a good room, regarding the kitchen and staff, there is need for improvement. Also the bed too soft, not really good for the back. Good thing its was far from noise.
I had a lovely time at Deshadan. The staff were kind and welcoming, the rooms tasteful and spotlessly clean. I enjoyed the room service food and it was excellent value.
Very importantly, the air conditioning was good. (I learnt in India that not all air conditioning is created equal!) Deshadan is a few minutes walk from the beach and it was lovely to stroll back to a genuinely cool room. The bed was comfortable. What else can I say? I loved it.
Nice hotel, short walk from the cliff with all restaurants and shops. The location is great, and the service friendly. Breakfast quality was not great. The hotel arranged a reliable car and driver for us when we left.
The location was fantastic. Just a walk away from the cliff side, and yet quiet and peaceful itself. The room was clean, and the pool was a treat! Only two complains - hot water in the shower kept running out, and the mattress was way too soft (had a backache after two nights). The staff was great, and very helpful (with directions, guides, etc.)
We arrived at this hotel having just spent 2 hectic weeks traveling around Rajasthan. We were looking for a place to relax for a few days before heading off to explore Kerala and this hotel turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The rooms and en suite bathrooms were beautiful and incredibly clean. All of the rooms are arranged around a pristine swimming pool which was perfect for cooling off in. It was also possible to order drinks next to the pool day and night.
We ate in the restaurant one night and had possibly the best meal of our entore trip in india.
The staff were also incredibly helpful, providing us with local information about restaurants, places to visit and transport.
We stayed here for 7 days at the end of an Exodus cycle tour, extending our holiday by 5 days to rest and relax. The hotel was small (about 15 rooms) but was very clean, including the pool which is essential in Varkalla as the sea can be out of bounds in July/August due to undercurrents. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Rooms were serviced daily and drinks by the pool were reasonabley priced. The food (breakfast was included) was excellent in their restaurant. However, we enjoyed walking 10 minutes to the cliffs where there were many restaurants to choose from just to give variety and we were rarely dissapointed.
We wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel for singles (there's not much going on in the area after dark apart from eating/drinking though), couples or families. Plenty of small 'touristy' shops to bargain at and all the sellars were friendly although haggle well.
