Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Vale Das Éguas?
The best area to stay in Vale Das Éguas is within the small village itself, particularly around the central square and main road that winds through it.

This compact village is located in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, offering a peaceful retreat. The main road, often un-named on maps but easily identifiable, connects the few local businesses and accommodations. You'll find traditional stone houses, and the general layout encourages walking. The focus here is on the natural surroundings and the quiet village life.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find the heart of Vale Das Éguas ideal. It's great for enjoying the natural beauty of the park, with numerous walking trails easily accessible directly from the village. You can spend your days exploring the countryside and your evenings enjoying the calm of the village.

For those seeking an active outdoor holiday, staying in Vale Das Éguas provides immediate access to hiking and cycling routes.
When is the best time to go to Vale Das Éguas?
The best time to go to Vale Das Éguas is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant for outdoor activities.

During late spring, the landscape is lush and green, and the temperatures are comfortably warm, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This period is ideal for hiking and exploring the natural beauty of the region, such as the trails around the Côa Valley Archaeological Park. The wildflowers are also in full bloom, adding to the scenic appeal.

Early autumn offers similar comfortable temperatures, usually between 18°C and 28°C, with less chance of rain than in spring. This is a great time for those interested in local gastronomy, as it coincides with harvest seasons for grapes and olives. Visitors can enjoy wine-tasting experiences at local vineyards or explore the historic villages without the crowds of peak summer.

While summer (July and August) brings the warmest weather, often exceeding 30°C, it can be quite hot for extensive outdoor exploration, especially for families with young children.
