Definitely not recommended for people with disabilities. The host was unhelpful and patronising. I would not recommend staying there. Things would have been better if the gentleman were polite and professional. First bad experience in Colesberg ever! Being a seasoned traveler, this was the first time that I was treated like an inconvenience. Very disappointed.
We had a very pleasant stay here, the room was perfect, well presented and comfortable.
Secure parking on site and choice of restaurants within 3 min walk.
The hosts were great, definitely would stay again and recommend the Barracks to friend's
A very nice guest house in a property and town with interesting history. The hosts, Mike and Annelie, made us feel welcome and cooked us a fantastic dinner (at extra cost) served in our room. Not a fancy or elegant place, but excellent value overall.
Excellent accommodation. We had our small dog with us and she had a closed area to walk in. Comfortable bed and very gracious hosts. Will definitely stay there when we go down again.
We had a very good stay. The owner was very nice and helpful when we arrived during bad weather. The room was comfortable and stocked with everything we needed.
Following long drive from Johannesburg meaning we arrived later than expected, we were warmly greeted by Mike. He saw our car was safely parked off street, welcomed us with a wee sherry before showing us to our lovely room. Just what we needed including being provided with spray repellent just in case. All part of the service.
Due to our late arrival, Mike kindly phoned a local restaurant to find out when the kitchen closed. Fortunately it was still open so this looking after us was much appreciated by my wife & I as we settled down with a couple of beers & some nice food
This a lovely old rustic property, unspoilt by remodelling and making the most of its period charm. Our bedroom was spacious and lofty with a shaded pergola. The King bed was very comfortable and the large bathroom had everything it should (and the softest towels). Mike and Annelie are natural and attentive hosts. Breakfast and dinner were of a good standard and there is a well-stocked bar
Amenities were more than adequate, however the management does not give the impression that they are prepared to go out of the way to accommodate their guests
The Barracks is a dilapidated bed and breakfast with old furniture (some broken like the bedside cabinet). The two padded chairs in the room were also dirty. We couldn't stay there so we left. The town is run-down and i wouldn't recommend staying in colesburg; rather book on the banks of the orange river or gariep dam. also wouldn't recommend parking your car outside -
quite a dodgy neighborhood. There's no decent restaurants in the town, however there is a spur at the shell garage nearby.
We loved the place, Mike went out of his way to make our stay memorable, Dinner and breakfast were excellent. The place is not a modern luxury lodge but its is very comfortable with lots of character and an excellent dining room. We will definitely stay again.
