Scenic Mountainside Cabin with Firepit and BBQ
Welcome to your cozy mountain hideaway at Twin Lakes - perfect for a peaceful winter retreat surrounded by 14,000-ft peaks!
We're here for you during your stay but our level of interaction is up to you. We are only a phone call or message away. You will be able to self check-in upon arrival. We are happy to assist via phone or through your booking app before, during or after your stay.
Once a week, one of our team members will stop by the property to put out the trash cans, replenish our supplies, and/or restock sheets and towels. They will NOT enter the home. They have access to the storage or shed with a code. This day may or may not fall during your stay.
TOWN OF TWIN LAKES & SURROUNDING AREAS Experience stunning views of Mt. Elbert and Mt. Hope, two of the tallest peaks in Colorado, from outside the cabin. Enjoy clear morning lake views and breathtaking panoramic perspectives, with glorious sunrises and mind-blowing sunsets. Twin Lakes, just a two-hour drive from Denver, is a remote historic mining town nestled in a National Forest at the base of the Rockies' tallest mountains. Our cabins offer the best views in the state and immediate access to the wilderness, allowing you to appreciate the untamed beauty of the area like never before.
ACTIVITIES & RECREATION Twin Lakes and Mt. Elbert Forebay are both a quick 5-10 minute drive from here. You'll find various activities to enjoy, including: • Swimming • Disc golf course in backyard (3 holes) • Canoeing (rentals available) • Kayaking (rentals available) • Stand-up paddle-boarding (rentals available) • Lake fishing (try ice fishing in the winter!) • Hiking/Cross-country skiing/Snowshoeing/Mountain biking. There are endless trails just outside your door for you to enjoy. • 14ers - Bag your peaks here! Use this as your base camp. The most accessible mountains are: Elbert, Massive, Huron, La Plata, Missouri, Belford, Oxford, Harvard, Colombia and Yale. • Stargazing. Don’t forget to bring your telescope! • ATVing/4-Wheeling/Snowmobiling. Haul your vehicle up. There’s plenty of space! • Whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River • Fly fishing the 100+ miles of Gold Medal trout water on the Arkansas River • Hunting • Gold-panning
We are accessible year-round. Our cabin is located on a county road that gets plowed when there's snow; however, we still recommend AWD with good tire tread in the snowy months (generally December to April). Winter driving conditions on the highways leading to the cabin can change rapidly, so check the weather before heading out. Colorado has some specific winter driving laws pertaining to tire requirements.
DRIVING DISTANCES - SKI RESORTS: • Copper - 50 min • Ski-Cooper - 40 min • Monarch - 1 hour 10 min • Vail - 1 hour 15 min • Keystone - 1 hour 15 min • Breckenridge - 1 hour 15 min
Frost glistens on the peaks as you step outside to breathe in the crisp alpine air. The scent of pine drifts through the valley while the quiet of Twin Lakes settles around you. Inside, the soft glow of morning light fills the cabin, inviting slow starts and warm coffee by the window as snow dusts the surrounding forest.
Sleeping arrangements This single-level log cabin sleeps 4 guests across 2 bedrooms, each featuring a plush Green Leaf memory foam mattress - one king and one queen - dressed in cozy linens and blackout curtains for restful sleep. A Pack ’n Play is provided for families traveling with little ones.
Living space Gather in the open living area to unwind after a day on the slopes or trails. A 43-inch Smart TV, board games, and soft seating create an inviting space for relaxed evenings. Freshly updated interiors balance rustic textures with modern comfort, warmed by soft lighting and the peaceful stillness of the mountains outside.
Kitchen & dining The fully equipped kitchen makes home-cooked meals easy, with modern appliances, cooking basics, and a coffee maker ready for your morning brew. Share meals at the dining table or step out to the patio for a taste of the mountain air. A shared BBQ grill and outdoor furniture offer space for casual gatherings when the weather allows.
Outdoor living In winter, snow blankets the landscape and transforms the area into a wonderland for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing on Twin Lakes. After a day exploring, head to the nearby communal firepit to watch the stars appear over the peaks.
Neighborhood Set in the heart of Colorado’s high country at 9,200 feet, Twin Lakes is surrounded by the tallest mountains in the Rockies, including Mt. Elbert and Mt. Hope. The town’s quiet charm and scenic trails are minutes away, with countless opportunities for outdoor adventure year-round.
Perfect for… Ideal for couples, families, and adventurers, this pet-friendly retreat combines comfort with access to endless wilderness. Whether you’re chasing winter snow or the serenity of alpine stillness, Moose Meadow Cabin offers a cozy base for exploring Colorado’s mountain beauty.
There is no public transportation that will take you up here. You will need your own vehicle. 4WD is recommended throughout the year and required during winter months due to potential heavy snowfall
In the patio area, you'll find a dedicated grill space, part of our shared outdoor amenities. Enjoy evenings around the communal firepit, a cozy gathering spot shared among our four cabin properties. Kindly note that the futons in the cabins are designed for seating only and are securely fixed in place. They cannot be converted into beds.
BRINGING ALONG YOUR FURRY FRIEND? Let us know a little about your dog(s) and we should be able to accommodate with an adjustment to our cleaning fee. $75 cleaning fee per dog, maximum two dogs only. Sorry, no cats permitted.
Events are subject to approval. Please note event fees will apply.
THE WILDLIFE: There are animals around the premises including many deer, foxes, multiple species of raptors and other birds, armadillos, many rabbits, black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, mountain lions, coyotes and more! You won’t see all of these at the cabin, but if you get out on the trails, you might get lucky...
RESPECT The Moose Cabin is located in a remote mountain town, and Twin Lakes is truly a special place. As you explore the area, please be mindful of your impact on the community and surrounding. We kindly ask that you respect the privacy and quiet of full-time residents, follow Leave No Trace principles, and consider supporting local dining and shops during your stay.
SMOKING We like to keep our cabins as fresh as the outside alpine air. If you need to smoke, you'll need to step outside to do so. There will be a $600 fine for any smoking inside the cabins.
FIRE There is currently a fire ban in place. Violations of this prohibition is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000. Please be careful and check with Lake County for more recent updates. --

Fabulous Twin Lakes Cabin
What a great place! The cabin was clean, comfortable, modern and well equipped. I have already started making plans to come back later this year.
With views looking down on the lake, both sunsets and sunrises are spectacular. I've stayed at many vacation rentals and this one is special.
The place was great. Very cozy and had everything we needed. Views were beautiful!
The stay was great. It was super short with one night.
When you rent this there is an extra fee that came through VRBO, that was not included in the total payment.
The view was amazing at this property. Room for improvement: beds were uncomfortable, couldn't leave a couple windows open as the catches were broken, thick layer of dust under the beds, would have been great to have a covered trash can in the kitchen as well as a screen for the sliding glass door. The property as well as the sheets did not have that "clean" smell that you typically get in a rental. Property management might want to check up on their cleaning crews.
Overall a great stay! There were a few things that were a little inconvenient like the screen door not sliding and falling off and deck heater not working, but overall a great stay!
The stay with The Moose Meadow was wonderful. I was running the Leadville Marathon and needed a place to stay before race day. The cabin was perfect. The host was very responsive and informative. I would definitely recomend and stay again!
The view of Twin Lakes was beautiful! The cabin was clean, well stocked, and the perfect size! I will definitely stay here again! My only slight complaint is that the directions seemed to leave off a left turn onto Ross, which turns into Pan Ark - we ended up in the bad place, but figured it out eventually!
The Moose Cabin in Twin Lakes was located in a beautiful area with great views of the lakes out the back door. The cabin was a short 15-20 minute drive to Leadville and about 25 minutes to BV and all the outdoor activities you would want within a 30 minute drive.
The property had,an amazing view. We were very pleased with the detail, cleanliness and ability to communicate with the owner. Were hoping to return at some time in the future.
We LoVED this property ! We celebrated my husbands 40th birthday weekend with our dog .we were lucky enough to be the only ones out of the 4 cabins and had the place to ourselves . We stayed in Moose & had more room than we expected .had everything we needed for grilling ,snacking & hiking . Panoramic views & 5 minute drive down to twin lakes beach was the best . We will be back during summer & fall . Excellent !!!
Great Views but Many Issues (The Moose Meadow) | Room to Improve
The location and views of these cabins are fantastic. To get the best views while indoors and outdoors coupled with the best patio furniture be sure to book The Moose Meadow cabin. But pet hair is as abundant as the amazing mountain views.
You'll probably be reading this review and thinking to yourself, "This woman probably just complains all the time. Everyone else gave it 5 stars. She must be just ridiculously high maintenance." At least this is how I sometimes think of those who give way less stars than the gross majority. Well, I'm putting proof behind my words. Just web search TheHikingBookworms and there you can find photo proofs and all the details.
The place was not cleaned properly. And we know the cleaning crew was there as we arrived 40 minutes before our check-in time (we waited patiently in our car).
When you first walk in it appears all is in order. New towels. Clean bathroom. Clean kitchen. But then it's time to go to bed and we both start sneezing. So, the lights get turned on and the inspection begins and the bedding is COVERED in pet hair. The comforter. The sheet. The fitted sheet. Pillows. And even the mattress cover! Pet hair, everywhere. There was an insane amount of it.
Does the Vrbo description say pets allowed? Yes, it does. We knew this going in. This was the first where we encountered pet hair on our bedding while staying at Vrbo-type places.
It was so gross (plus allergies) that we stripped the bed and slept in our sleeping bags.
Note, we do own a dog. But we don't have his hair all over our bed, let alone hair from a stranger's dog.
The next day we contacted Airsimplicity and then began the long, ridiculous process of remedying this situation.
Other issues: The welcome flowers were several days dead and swimming in murky week-old water. Kitchen not well stocked, at all. Dish soap that won't dispense. Utensils were disgustingly dirty. Pots with lids that don't fit. Online description about internet does not match the check-in details. Mattress was very uncomfortable. There are two bedrooms and BOTH beds were covered in pet hair!
For the price we paid for this cabin we simply we expected more.
We really hope they improve their property's maintenance because competition is coming to Twin Lakes area in terms of rental homes with gorgeous views.
