A glorious peaceful setting for a relaxing getaway. A quaint homestead with all the heritage features. Stunning countryside views. Would definitely recommend.
Seven of us stayed at Highlanders for the weekend, school friends connecting over decades of friendship. It was the perfect location - rolling hills and complete peace but only five minutes to Gloucester. The house is beautiful, and equipped with everything we could have needed. Great communal spaces and room for privacy, and an amazing fire pit stocked with wood for long nights under the stars. Thank you so much.
A wonderful winter escape!
The Highlander's Retreat has everything you need. The kitchen is well set up and the house has beautiful views from the main bedroom and lounge room. We enjoyed the daily visits from the cows.
A country retreat on a large acerage all to yourself but only 5 minutes from town.
Beautiful sunsets to enjoy from the fire pit and relaxing nights around the fireplace.
The Highlander's Retreat is also the perfect base for walks in the Barrington Tops National Park. The walks in Gloucester Tops were our favourite.
We had a wonderful stay.
Being Scottish expats, Highlander's Retreat sounded like the perfect place for Mum's 83rd Birthday... and it was! Beautiful touches throughout the cottage. Super comfortable furniture & beds & very spacious for 6 adults. Stunning scenery that would change with every season / weather. Stunning sunrises & sunsets with finches, wrens & wagtails galore. You could visit 4 times in a year & have 4 different experiences.... lovely in all temperatures for different reasons. I would challenge anyone not to love a few days here.
Unfortunately for us we stayed whilst a severe weather event impacted the entire mid north coast of NSW so our hiking and mountain biking plans weren’t able to be met. The property is as presented and very comfortable. Our hosts were also very communicative and generous in allowing us to stay longer, should we have needed to, due to the significant flooding in the area. Very much appreciated.
Incredible rural vistas from every window.
Generous pantry and living room.
Stylish Master bedroom.
Wonderful selection of interior books to browse through.
Close to town.
Friendly cows.
Total rural bliss!!
Thankyou
Julie
Our group of four adult friends and two spoilt oodles spent a long weekend at Highlander's Retreat as a celebration of a special birthday. Everything about the property was completely perfect.
The home is as beautiful as the pictures suggest (to get a real feel for how lovely it is check out the better and bigger selection of pics on the "other" holiday booking site). There are several outdoor and indoor areas to relax, celebrate or just soak up the sunshine, peace and beauty of the property.
The kitchen is fabulous for creating special celebration meals with everything you could need plus lots of basics in the pantry ready to go.
We picked the sweetest oranges I've ever tasted from the front garden and orchard, played badminton in the garden and spent hours chatting, star gazing by the firepit and playing boardgames on the deck.
We slept in gorgeous comfy beds with top quality linen and enjoyed having a bathroom per couple.
Leighton and Kathy are so welcoming in all their communication that you feel like it's your home and they truly want you to enjoy every moment you are there.
We didn't do much in the local area, having the two dogs meant no walking in the National Parks but we knew that well in advance and were happy to wander on the farm or do very little and let go of the rush of our busy lives for a couple of days. We've all come home so relaxed with many happy memories and our diaries firmly in our hands trying to decide when we can go again.
Fabulous. All the generations had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Walks, stars, warming fires, so well provisioned. Everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. Host was friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
The Highlanders Retreat is nestled amongst rolling green hills and big open skies. The landscape is breathtaking and its easy to relax and soak in all the sights and sounds of nature. The house is large but cosy at the same time. Well appointed with everything you need for a home away from home feeling. The mattresses , bed linen and pillows are perfect luxury for a good nights sleep . We sat at the outdoor table every meal to take in the scenery and watched the galahs and rosellas feed at the bird table. This place feels loved and cared for by the owners and happy that they want to share it with others. We will definitely be back . Thank-you
We had a very relaxing stay. This house is beautifully furnished, and the kitchen has everything. The views and location are stunning. Peaceful but plenty of things to do right on the doorstep.
What an amazing property!
Owners were a pleasure to deal with. Property is even more amazing than we expected. All the mod cons and a spectacular view from every angle!
We made use of the entire property and loved all the extra little homely touches.
Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for your amazing hospitality, we will Definately be back!
A++++++++++++ property
This is the first place I've stayed at where the actual property is even better than the photos. Beautiful setting inside and out. The interior is spacious, clean and modern. The kitchen is well stocked. There's even a Thermomix! Very prompt communications from the owner. Would highly recommend this place.
A comfortable, charming home in a spectacular location. Extremely well stocked and thought has gone into how to cater for guests. Designer touches and modern comforts add to the experience. Would not hesitate to book again.
Beautiful house and surrounds. Great for families, very child-friendly. Lots of space for children to run around and explore. The house exceeded our expectations (photos on stayz.com doesn't do it justice!). There is pretty much everything you need, making it a lovely country getaway for the weekend. Location was perfect, not too far from Gloucester town and a reasonable drive to the Barrington Tops. Leighton (owner) was very responsive and easy to communicate with. It was wonderful weekend had by all and we plan to be back again =)
We had a great time, visiting with another family. The house was bigger than we expected from the photos and the property is very well looked after. Everything we needed was there.
The couple of small issues we had were solved very quickly.
The views are amazing as were the sunsets. Would happily recommend.
