The property was perfect for our needs! Loved that it was so close to hiking/trails, very much appreciated the games and kids books, and the hosts provided all the amenities we could need! Would love to go again in the summer when we can make use of the garden!
The location was beautiful and we enjoyed the access to the Appalachian trail. We were also only 20 minutes away from Tinker Cliffs. House was very clean, smelled nice, and owners were responsive. Would definitely stay again.
Have stayed here a few times over the years, it is our go to place near Roanoke. The house and property has been very well taken care of, extremely clean, and well supplied with everything you need. We love relaxing on the porch or up on the hill, the views are great. The location is perfect for getting to places to hike nearby or for going into Roanoke. We will be back again for sure.
We had a lovely stay at The Virginia Cottage. While visiting family in town, we found the Cottage to be the perfect location. Our hosts were attentive and responded quickly to any questions we had. We're already planning to book again for next year. I highly recommend staying here!
Clean, spacious, up to date, everything we need. Sybllie and Mark are fabulous hosts. The grounds are great and well maintained our FurKids have plenty of space and freedom when we visit!
Lovely house with fantastic owners. Nestled right off the highway, this house has tons of space with everything needed to prepare a meal. The farm is beautiful and easy access to trails. Easy to get into Roanoke, we will definitely be back.
The cottage is lovely and well maintained...very comfortable. The grounds are just beautiful from the organic gardens to walks on the long driveway. A bonus is that the location is very close to 81 so very easy on and off the highway. We hope to return in the Fall.
The cottage was peaceful, clean, and convenient to Hollins University, downtown Roanoke and Salem. There were plenty of good restaurants close by, and the property had all modern day amenities. The hosts were very gracious and attentive. I would love to return.
The name perfectly represented this wonderful weekend getaway. Our only disappointment was we didn’t have enough time to enjoy all the surrounding local attractions. We were fine just sitting on the porch relaxing and visiting with family! Will definitely return for more hiking and exploring.
We had a wonderful time staying at “the cottage”. My girls and I hiked the AT with easy access from the property, they also visited the “black twig” garden and loved taking a peek at the honey bees. The owners even set up a campfire for us to roast s’mores our last night. The house itself was close to kayaking, hiking, zip lining or just a drive on the parkway.
I truly enjoyed staying at this property. My friend and I were on a research trip and spent a lot of time on the front porch working. WiFi was very strong and the home was fully furnished with everything we needed. We were even invited to pick fresh strawberries in the garden! We both really enjoyed ourselves and agreed when we have to do one more trip in VA we’ll be staying here again.
This property was wonderful! We were visiting the Roanoke area to attend a funeral and the Cottage was a wonderful retreat. The property had numerous outdoor areas to enjoy and the weather was beautiful. We also appreciated visiting with the owners and met their beautiful Labs. We would definitely recommend this property to others. We had no problems and all of our needs were met. Thanks Sybille and Mark!
We stayed here for a Va Tech Clemson football game. It was about a 45 minute drive. Cottage was well equipped with everything you could need. Kitchen was stocked with everything. Bathrooms were updated and spacious and beds very comfortable. Nice to sit out on the porch in rocking chairs and enjoy the peaceful nature. Would definitely stay here again. Hosts was very responsive.
Wonderful house; the owners included so many appliances and thoughtful gestures.
DEFINITELY worth the money! Beautiful house fully equipped. We were so comfortable. Our hosts, Sybille and Mark were so nice. The house is handy to stores, etc. and so nicely situated in a meadow, with a garden and several lovely places to sit and enjoy nature. We will be back!

This is a wonderful little home with lots of charm. Reminds me of grandma's house. It is older and some floors are not even, but the bathrooms and the kitchen have been updated, new windows and heat/air system. We enjoyed the porches a lot. They have anything and everything you might need for your stay. Saw a deer and groundhog there. Grounds were beautifully kept. Would stay again.
We had a wonderful stay here for a few days during the week that we were moving our daughter into college at VT. The cottage feels remote but is less than 10 minutes to grocery shopping and restaurants in Daleville, 20 minutes to downtown Roanoke, and 45 minutes to Blacksburg. We loved the garden and gazebo area. Kitchen and baths were nice, bedrooms were comfortable, and AC/temperature control worked well. The Wifi is a bit slow for work purposes but worked fine for video streaming. There is a trail from the cottage to the AT, but it needs some clearing as we could not get past a fallen tree and other brush toward the end. Overall, I highly recommend staying here!
If I could give more stars I would! This has got to be one of the COOLEST places we've ever stayed. Very nicely appointed. Kitchen has all you need. Its true! You can pick right from the garden and fruit trees. We had eggplant, tomatoes and rosemary from the garden. Pears and figs from the trees. We hiked along the Appalachian Trail! The deer meander through the property all day. They love the Asian pears falling from the tree right now. In the evenings we would sit on the back porch and the deer would just hang out. We saw lightening bugs! Haven't seen them in years. We would recommend this place to everyone who loves a stay in the country but its close to stores etc. Husband very impressed that the gas grill had adequate gas and worked properly for two meals.
