Waiwhare On The Beach (beachfront property with direct beach access)
10/10 Excellent
"A very large, old beach house. And just wonderful. Cosy fire, amazing views, everything possible available in kitchen. Drove through floods to get there and it was worth it. My little dogs are home and absolutely exhausted from all the great walks."
"The bach is in a brilliant position, very close to the beach but high enough to be out of any wave danger. Great views of the sea. Good views of the lighthouse which is lit up at night. The kitchen has an air-fryer which was easy to use, and a good big coffee plunger. Our weekend away had terrible weather, but the bach quickly heated up inside and was nice and warm. There was a problem with the new Smart TV, no satellite signal, but I'm sure it will be fixed before the next guest. There is no WiFi and radio and tv reception is pretty weak on the coast, but 4G phone reception is fine. Hopefully we'll have good weather for our next visit."
Stylish modern apartment with stunning lighthouse views, close to the beach
10/10 Excellent
"Very comfortable and peaceful with a great view of the lighthouse. Clean, modern apartment with everything you need. The whole experience was seamless and Dave was a good communicator and just made it happen. Would stay again!"
"The property was beautiful, and the surroundings were stunning. Despite there being other properties it felt very private. A great place to unwind. The dogs were really friendly and so well behaved, they came by each day to play with our dogs and have a cuddle. Host communication was fantastic, they were extremely accomodating and really went the extra mile. Cant recommend this property enough. We'll defintely be back. "
"Such a lovely place to stay, beautifully presented, every condiment you could want, fresh flowers and herbs in the room. A lovely bottle of bubbles in the fridge, hot tub a real treat, so quiet. Host are fantastic, they go above and beyond to make your stay so comfortable. Highly recommend and would definitely be back."
The best area to stay in Tinui Valley is the central area around the Tinui Village and the immediate surrounding farmland.
This area is the heart of the valley, offering a genuine rural New Zealand experience. It's characterised by rolling hills, expansive farmland, and the tranquil Tinui Stream. The Tinui Village itself is small but has a few essential amenities, including a historic church and a local pub, serving as a focal point for the community. Most accommodations here are private holiday homes or farmstays, providing a quiet and private retreat.
Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find this area particularly appealing. You can enjoy long walks through the countryside, stargazing without light pollution, and visiting local vineyards in the wider Wairarapa region, which is a short drive away. The emphasis here is on relaxation and enjoying the natural surroundings.
Families will also appreciate the space and opportunities for outdoor activities. Many farmstays offer experiences like interacting with farm animals, and there's plenty of room for children to play.
When is the best time to go to Tinui Valley?
The best time to visit Tinui Valley is during the summer months, from December to February, when the weather is warm and dry, making it ideal for outdoor activities.
During this period, you can expect long, sunny days with average temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C. This weather is superb for exploring the walking and cycling tracks, visiting the local vineyards, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the valley. It's also a great time for couples to enjoy romantic picnics and scenic drives.
For those who prefer slightly cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) are also excellent. In autumn, the valley's foliage transforms into beautiful shades of red and gold, while spring brings blooming wildflowers and new life to the vineyards. Temperatures during these times typically range from 15°C to 20°C, which is still comfortable for most outdoor pursuits.
While winter (June to August) brings cooler, wetter weather, it can still be a pleasant time for a cosy getaway, especially if you're interested in indoor activities like wine tasting or relaxing by a fireplace.
