Annual holiday
This will be our 20ish holiday at Otter Ferry and stayed in a few lodges over the years but first time at Cockleshell. This is another super lodge on the shoreline which is great for wild swimming and dogs just love the walks around the estate. Thanks Tristan, will be back later in the year.
Overall we had a great few days here albeit the property is a little 'tired'. We did feel the cleaning could have been better. There were a few dead flies and a number of cobwebs around the place. That said, bedding and bathrooms were clean. The double bed, very comfy.
Decking could do with a little tlc too, a number of the steps felt quite 'shoogly'.
Location is wonderful with a great view over the loch. Would stay again.

Picture Perfect Location
A lodge in a wonderful location so peaceful but within walking distance of the local restaurant.
The lodge itself is very spacious and generally well equipped however it is slightly tired and in need of some TLC.
The real downsides are the shower in the en-suite and the decking. The shower in the en-suite can only be described as dangerous as there is no control of the water temperature and when hot is scalding hot. This needs repairing ASAP before someone is hurt (child or elderly person). The decking also needs repairing. It is rotting in places and I am sure again it is not safe.
Overall we would return to the lodge but they do need to fix the above issues.
We stayed at Cockleshell Lodge for 10 days in November and had a fabulous time. The lodge is right on the waters edge and we would have paid for the view alone. It is absolutely stunning. There are dog walks straight from the lodge and no need to get the car ut all around the Ballimore Estate and we met the "Lady of the House" who told us some interesting facts about the estate.
The lodge itself is huge ! It has a great entrance with lots of space to leave muddy boots and coats etc. There are three bedrooms and have the comfiest beds ever !!
The lounge is spacious and leads onto a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need.
There is a log burner , which we didnt really use that much because the weather was so good and not cold at all. But when we did it was very easy to get going .
TV - very basic but if you've come here to watch TV then don't !! Make the most of what is around you.
Location - yes it is very remote but not so remote that you don't see anyone. We met lots of lovely people walking around .
Pub- There is a pub called The Oystercatcher at the entrance to the estate and takes 15 mins to walk. We walked in the evenings with head torches and no problem at all. A word of warning - its a bit hit and miss when they open. We checked opening times when we arrived but one evening when we walked down for a meal it was closed, not a problem for us because we were prepared but just a warning to check,
Fantastic property, spacious and clean, super comfy beds and pillows. Perfect location to visit countless places of absolute beauty.
Host was amazing!

A peaceful and cosy lodge
We had a lovely 6 night stay at Cockleshell Lodge. The location and view are amazing for walks with the dogs and it's just steps from the beach. Pub within walking distance had really good food. Be aware that the nearest shop is quite a drive down a single track road, so it's worth bringing some provisions with you.
The lodge was well equipped with cooking utensils, comfy beds and plenty of towels. TV reception is weak but the internet was absolutely fine. The hosts managing the property were extremely responsive and friendly.
Our only suggestion would be to try to make some of the doors a bit less creaky. It may not be an issue for a lot of guests but we had a toddler with us and when he was in bed, it was difficult to go in and out of bathrooms/bedrooms without making a lot of noise.
We would definitely stay again.

Stunning views beautiful sunsets
Otter Ferry is a beautiful place to stay and lodge was close to Loch Fyne so had great views of the herons and seals.
Nice walks around the estate.
The lodge itself was very comfortable not the cleanest but just gave it a wipe down myself.
Few essential things missing tea towels, lock on bathroom door a sharp knife luckily my daughter always brings 1 with her.
A suggestion to owners would be to update the decking area cockleshell wasn't too bad but the oystershell decking wasn't suitable for dogs as the spaces between the slats are too wide and there paws would go through them.
Both properties could be doing with a handrail for going up and down steps at decking area.
Tristan was very easy to get a hold of and always replied promptly.
Was a great relaxing holiday weather not the greatest but the views make up for that and didn't stop the younger ones having a swim.
There are no shops nearby but cooperative do an online delivery you have to put address as Ballimore House and in the notes ask for driver to deliver to whichever lodge you are staying in.

Disappointing
We are no able review the accommodation as after 11 hour journey ,we arrived at the cabin to find it wasnt cleaned, linen every where. We were offered either a 45 min wait while they cleaned or another cabin but it was further back , after the long drive we decided on another cabin. One of the reasons was the covid clean on website said the cabins are cleaned and steamed after every use 45 min clean would not be as expected and onevof the reasons we took the holiday. So although we holidayed in a nice cabin we didnt get the holiday we paid for and wanted which was a cabin which was at the beach. So although the area was amazing we were disappointed and not sure we would return to this park although the area which we have bistrd before.

Stunning place to chill out
Loved Otter Ferry, nothing there and shops are miles away and a trek so come well stocked up. Its beautiful location, stunning scenery, the spring wildflowers were breath taking and the smell of bluebells was awesome, The gardens are full of old well established plants and trees which have been left to their own devices, so its a lovely place to wander around in a chilled and relaxed location. The loch is just on the door step and is so clean and wonderful to just sit and watch. The weather was mixed but even watching the stormy weather on the loch was a joy.

Scenic lodge on Lovh Fyne
Cockleshell had an amazing outlook onto Loch Fyne, we spent hours on the comfy sofas just watching the tides & bird life.
The lodge was comfortable & well appointed. Although the parts I imagine would be covered in the change-over clean (bathrooms, kitchen, floors etc) were spotless, the lodge could do with a more general clean eg lots of cobwebs on the wood panelled walls, windows inside & out.
The lodge is part of a plot of around 20 chalets, the 5 advertised for holiday let and the rest appear to be residential, so there was maybe a few more people around than we expected. The location felt a lovely escape from every day life, but also involved quite a lot of single track road driving to get anywhere. This wasn’t a great problem, but means it takes longer than you’d expect to get out & about.

Gorgeous and remote
We didn’t quite realise just how remote the lodge would be and were glad to have taken plenty of food with us! Gorgeous beach and a relaxing time had by all. Lovely new bathrooms and the master bed was really comfortable.

Feb 2022 break
Absolutely stunning location, peaceful and ideal for just getting away from busy life. Very well equipped lodge and comfortable beds. The log fire and heating made for a lovely warm stay whilst the wind howled and snow and hail fell.
Loved being able to let the dogs straight out onto the small beach and they loved their walks along the shore line and through the woods.
Easy to get to Portavardie and get a ferry to Tarbert to explore a little and dinner at the Oystercatcher was delicious but book first.

Beautiful location
Cockleshell Lodge is in an amazing location, just steps from the loch. The lodge itself is warm and comfortable.
The lodge is quite remote from shops so be sure to take enough food to store in the ample fridge/freezer.
It’s a bird watchers paradise. The lodge has powerful binoculars.
Perfect for water sports. We intend taking a canoe next time we visit Cockleshell lodge.
Beautiful walks to be had on the estate but be prepared for the weather !
A few kitchen items need to be replaced, eg the cooking knives were blunt and the vegetable sieve was rusty. Minor irritations.
Argyll Cottages were most helpful in adjusting our holiday dates this year. Due to quarantine restrictions in Germany my family needed to return earlier than planned.
We are looking forward to our next visit

Amazing views and sunsets, lovely walks around the estate.

Great lodge in an excellent location right on the shoreline.
Had a fabulous week up here on the shores of Loch Fyne. The lodge is a little tired in places (not that it affects anything) but the location and views more than make up for it. It's just stunning and everyone is so friendly as they walk past. Will definitely come and stay again.

lovely place stunning sunsets
the lodge was lovely needs a little TLC outside would help others if going for first time to say bring plenty of provisions nothing nearby for food as the pub was shut for 4 days we ran out not the owners fault but still may help others. But overall lovely spot and very relaxing thank you.
