Waterfront Dolphin Pod - Bocas' best snorkeling!
This cozy waterfront cabin is ideal for a couple or tight-knit family. On the lower level, a ‘floating’ queen bed overlooks the water and can double as a couch. Upstairs, you'll sleep comfortably on a full bed with spectacular views of our dolphin-filled bay. The room is totally screened in for comfort, but doors open onto a private patio with its own toilet, sink, and shower. When night falls, bioluminescent plankton illuminate the water - magical!
About Cocovivo: Welcome to our jungle paradise! CocoVivo sits on the Southern tip of Isla San Cristobal in the Bocas Del Toro Archipelago, a pristine paradise untouched by roads. Nestled between the magic of the jungle and the spectacular beauty of a coral reef, CocoVivo is an eco-conscious paradise where guests can connect with the beauty and biodiversity of the Bocas while still indulging in maximum relaxation. In each of our waterfront cabins, nature is right at your doorstep. Prepare to fall asleep to the sound of bioluminescent waters lapping beneath you and wake up to magical sunrises and sloths hanging out in the mangroves just feet from your window.
Our private cabins are all within five minutes walk of our communal Reef Center which is the gathering place for guests and staff alike. At the Reef Cabin, you’ll find free snorkel equipment, kayaks and standup paddle boards, hammocks, a diving board, lounge space, and our communal dining table where guests can enjoy mouth-watering meals prepared by our private chefs. Our menu features innovative fusion dishes with ingredients grown right here on the property. At the Reef Center, you can also fill up on drinking water, help yourself to fresh fruit, and purchase cold sodas and beers. A perfect place for co-working, the Reef Cabin also has the strongest wifi signal on the property.
Magical encounters with flora and fauna are a daily occurance here at CocoVivo, including… ANIMALS: Sloths, howler monkeys, kinkajous, frogs, dogs, and dolphins. PLANTS: CocoVivo got started as a reforestation project 20+ years ago, and today the forest is flourishing.
Bookings for larger groups (up to 16 people) and yoga retreats are possible via: http://www.airbnb.com/h/eco-retreat
Guest access The cabins are designed for privacy, tranquility.
Shared areas include:
-The Reef Center, our communal dining, snorkeling, and co-working area.
-Complimentary standup paddles boards and kayaks are available at the end of the main dock. Keep in mind, we are one of the few resorts that offers these resources free-of-charge, so please leave the equipment in the same shape in which you found it (including inflating the boards) so they are ready-to-go for the next set of guests.
-Two composting toilets and one flush toilet are shared by everyone on the property.
-All the hiking trails on our 55 acre property are open for your exploration. For longer hikes and to learn about the biodiversity of the jungle, we encourage you to sign up for our $12/person jungle tour to make the most of your adventure.
Other things to note !!! IMPORTANT: THIS IS A RUSTIC PLACE, NOT A LUXURY RESORT !!!
It's for the adventurous, who want comfort in a remote setting, and want to experience realities of rural life in the tropics. In addition to the abundant pleasures of the lush forests and reefs, you should expect to…..
WEAR BUG PROTECTION when being outdoors during dusk and dawn: We are bug conscious in the design of our accommodations. You will see dozens of geckos feeding on the insects on the outside of the screens that keep you bug free in the house.
THERE ARE NO RESTAURANTS nearby CocoVivo and only one of the cabins (the Mangrove Treehouse) has a kitchen, so most guests choose to participate in our mealplan. Our rotating teams of private chefs offer delicious communal meals for an additional fixed fee. When you message us, please tell us what your plan for food is, or ask us to provide more information about the mealplan.
TO GET TO COCOVIVO, please ask us about our rideshare service. We offer daily trips to either Bocas Town or Almirante. If you’d like to participate, please mention it in your booking message, and we will try our best to coordinate your pickup and dropoff with the needs of other guests, and ask for your flexibility.
FEEL, SEE, HEAR, AND SMELL NATURE: Maybe the howler monkeys will wake you up. Maybe you will see spiders of unreasonable size. Maybe there will be a tropical storm, blowing warm lush rain in all directions. Our cabins are designed for maximum nature experience, and to bring in the breeze - and sometime with it some moisture. Maybe it’s a perfect, calm night, and while you are looking at a perfect reflection of the milky way in the water, you notice the natural smell of a healthy mangrove forest. All these things can be part of the experience.

Exactly what we were looking for. Comfortable accommodations right on the water in a rustic setting with wildlife all around. Amazing snorkeling right on the property, hiking trail through the rainforest with sloths and monkeys, and opportunities for kayaking, swimming, etc. Hosts Melisa and Luciano were so helpful before and during our stay, and the food they prepared was spectacular. We loved our stay!
We truly loved our stay with the Cocovivo family! We had no idea what to expect as some other places in Bocas del Toro had their corals bleeched. When we began snorkeling at Cocovivo - it was an amazing experience. What Ulrich and Elisabeth have created is a playground on both land and water... With coral reefs, kayaks, trails to spot the monkeys, sloths, birds, dolphins and at night glowing plankton and star filled skies... The list goes on.
Lastly, a big shoutout to Captain, their dog, our FRIEND, and protector. He made our stay extra special. Friendliest and most active dog we've ever met.
Gracias Cocovivo por los lindos recuerdos.
We stayed 5 nights with 7 & 9 year olds.
After dropping our bags, we received a tour of the toilets. Each cabin on the water has open toilets (for pee) with receptacles for paper. There are also several compostable toilets (simply pour a few scoops of sawdust after use and nature does the rest) and one flushable toilet. We used them all and were amazed at how easy, clean, and well engineered they all were. Ningún problema.
We spent our days waking to the sounds of the jungle (birds and howler monkeys), stand-up paddling while trying to catch up to the fast swimming dolphin, jungle trekking with sloth, reading in the hammock for hrs (I finished 2 books!), snorkeling, & eating very well (Gracias a Nacho for making pickles for my daughter when she was homesick).
Our only complaint was the sand flies who devoured us (+100 bites btwn us). Bring repellant! And cream for after the bites.
WOW! What an unbelievable experience we had at this unique and awesome property. Here are a bunch of random notes:
1) be prepared for no hot water and composting toilets (think porta potties) this was not an issue for us, but for some it could be.
2) Try everything and advocate for yourself. We found that sometimes they were a little pessimistic about certain activities- but if you tell them you want to do it they will make it happen.
2a) Bio-luminescence was really cool - go snorkeling and take out the clear kayak (they told us with the full moon it may not be worth it but it was cloudy enough and definitely worth it)
2b) We went to a day trip to Zapatillas (they also didnt advise it) but we went the right time of year (September) and it was amazing!
3) Staying on dolphin bay was really amazing, we saw dolphins off the dock (though from pretty far away), and on our boat trip to zapatillas and on our return to bocas at the end of our stay.
4) The coral here is out of this world, the greens, yellows and purples were amazing
5) Its definitely not super private and the Dolphin pod that we stayed in was probably the least private. You need to go in aware and comfortable with this. You basically see people walking by when you are in the outdoor shower. So either be comfortable, wear a bathing suit or shower at night.
6) It can be a little toasty in the cabins at night - they do provide a fan - but if you are sensitive you should be aware. Our friends stayed in mangrove house and it was stuffier than the Dolphin pod - but way more private.
7) Bocas town was not our cup of tea, so we only went when we needed to fly in and out.
All of this aside, we had a fantastic time and would definitely consider going back!
