The Italko Monastery, 15km South-West of Telavi, in the 6th century was founded by Senon, one of the 13 Syrian missionaries. The original church dates back to the 8th century, but the church as seen today is from the 11th century with beautiful frescos on the inside. The monastery complex is enclosed by a wall and also houses 2 chapels and the ruins of monastery buildings.
