L'abbaye de Fontenay. Le dortoir à l'étage du bâtiment conventuel. Dans le transept-sud de l’église un escalier permet d’accéder au dortoir des moines. Les moines dormaient sur des paillasses à même le sol. Les paillasses étaient séparées par des cloisons. La charpente du dortoir date de 1159.

Abbaye cistercienne de Fontenay Fondée en 1119 par saint Bernard, l'abbaye bourguignonne de Fontenay, à l'architecture dépouillée, avec son église, son cloître, son réfectoire, son dortoir, sa boulangerie et sa forge, illustre bien l'idéal d'autarcie des premières communautés de moines cisterciens.
