DESTINATION: CABO DE LA VELA, Colombia - A day of taxi, bus and jeep hopping will land you in this dusty fishing village sitting on the edge of South Americas northern most point. Where scorched orange desert meets the azure blue of the Caribbean ocean. Cabo village feels extremely remote, surrounded by baron landscape. From here there is the option to shell out a little extra to visit the giant rolling sand dunes of Punta Gallinas. Pilon de Azucar provides a 360 degree lookout point and this incredible beach. 

HOW TO GET THERE: From Santa Marta take a bus from the Terminal De Transporte to Riohacha (3hr). A taxi from Riohacha to Uribia (1hr). Finally jump in a colectivo to Cabo Del La Vela (1hr bumpy 4x4 ride). Rough cost 55,000COP. 
To reach Pilon de Azucar (featured) just grab a cheap moto taxi from Cabo town. 

WHERE TO STAY: Riohacha - To break up the journey check into Hammocks Hostel. 
Cabo Del La Vela - Hammocks line the beach. The cheapest are where the colectivos drop you off. 10,000COP/£2.50 for a hammock. 25,000COP/£6 for a dorm bed.
