The best area to stay in Termoli is the historic Old Town, known locally as Borgo Vecchio, or the modern town centre just outside its walls.
The Borgo Vecchio is a charming, pedestrian-friendly area perched on a promontory overlooking the Adriatic Sea. It's characterised by narrow, winding cobblestone streets, colourful houses, and the impressive Castello Svevo dominating the skyline. The Termoli Cathedral, a beautiful Romanesque church, is also a prominent landmark within these walls. This district offers a truly authentic Italian experience.
For couples, the Borgo Vecchio is an excellent choice. It's wonderfully romantic with its picturesque lanes and sea views. You'll find a selection of high-quality hotels and B&Bs tucked away in historic buildings, offering a peaceful and intimate setting. Evening strolls through the illuminated streets, followed by dinner at a local trattoria with fresh seafood, are a highlight.
Just outside the Old Town walls, the modern town centre offers a more contemporary experience while still being very convenient. This area features wider streets, more shops, and a greater selection of hotels, many with sea views. It's well-connected to the train station and the port, making it ideal for those planning day trips to the nearby Tremiti Islands or other parts of Molise.
Families often find the modern town centre more practical. Hotels here tend to offer more amenities and larger rooms, and you're closer to the main town beach, Lungomare Cristoforo Colombo, which is superb for a relaxing day by the sea.
