Mere and the whole team were super helpful, friendly and made it a very nice place to stay.
The food is excellent with views of the sunset and the ocean. Very easy access to the beach where you can snorkel, grab a coffee or some more food.
Recommend using their local knowledge to book excursions such as scuba diving or trips around the island.
Look forward to returning one day!
So welcoming, friendly - they just made everything easy. Great vibes with a beautiful space and attentive staff, but still felt relaxed and authentic and not sterile like a resort. Beautiful grounds, and small, so very peaceful and private. There is great snorkelling right across the road if you go at high tide.
Makaira is set up on a hill with a beautiful view of the ocean and a nice white sand beach at the bottom of the hill which has excellent snorkeling. The grounds are lovely and relaxing and the staff are kind and helpful without exception.
Small property, only four houses, and everything is handled in a very personal and helpful way. Really enjoyed the hospitality (and also the massage). Highly recommended.

We loved our stay here. Great view, amazing breakfast every morning (we're talking fresh fruit, coffee, juice, freshly baked muffins, homemade pineapple jam, toast, pancakes, homemade pineapple syrup!!), and super friendly staff. Every want and need we had was met with a smile from the staff. Cherry on top was the massages.
Rooms are huge, clean, and have great views.
Taveuni was our favorite island while exploring fiji, and we will be sure to be back :)
Unique was the friendliness of ALL the staff and Mary's awesome cooking. The place is very well maintained, great sea wiew, nicely located, although requiring -7 min walking down to the beach. You need a transport to go shopping, to the airfield or to the main town with ATM machine. Less ideal was the music from the "restaurant" down at the road. All in all a place I really recommend.
This is a small resort, with only 4 guest cottages (which they call bures), so there's a lot of privacy. There are expansive views of the ocean, including sunsets. The staff is very friendly, with a wonderful sense of humor, and we shared a lot of laughs. Our bure was cleaned every day. The dinners in their restaurant were delicious, with generous portions. Breakfast was included every morning, and activities were arranged for us.
This was a great property, staffed with amazing people! Mere and her staff made us so welcome and was there to assist us with all our needs prior to arriving, than with a delayed fliight, missed flight, to getting us taxi to where we wanted to go even though we kept changing our minds. It really was a wonderful experience….food…..breakfast and dinner….DELICIOUS! Seriously so scrumptious! I had tears in my eyes when we left….such wonderful memories made! If you get the chance try a massage….best I have ever had! Hats off to Mere, Small (for getting us coconuts) and everyone else!!! You are in our hearts forever!!
We stayed 4 nights in Grand suite- cottage contains two double beds with two separate bathrooms and living/kitchen area. It has wonderful views. Snorkelling is just 3 mins from the beach, but only in high-mid tide conditions. Reef is very nice. Staff is very friendly. Mary has organised our land tours (Lavena coastal walk and waterfalls in Bouma National park- don't miss them and take a guide for coastal walk as we got a bit lost) as we did our water-based activities previously in dive resort. Food was the best on this island- both breakfasts and the dinners cooked by Mary. We strongly recommend to use this option for a dinner. Two small things are to mention: no dark blinds/curtains in the rooms, so it is quite bright to sleep after sunrise and the tea pot and pots for cooking are huge (it would be good to have a small cooking pot). On weekend, it was a loud music from the restaurant below on the beach, but finished around 11pm. Overall, we enjoyed our stay tremendously.
The resort is great and the host is beyond excellent. They take care of everything for you and they ensure that you have a good stay.
BEWARE! The worst thing about my stay was my interactions with the tour guide they had at the resort named Varun, of 'Wings & Fins Tours'. This person is a conman who will lie to you, overcharge you, and take your hard earned money. Varun(aka Baba) is known to lie to and overcharge couples and guests, sometimes causing them to cry. I've heard stories about him during my stay all with the same ending. I wish I had been warned about him before he got to me. He is known by the locals as a conman. If you want to enjoy your time in Taveuni, avoid this conman.

Our stay here was absolutely amazing. I would have to day the best part of our stay here was the staff, they are the BEST people you will ever meet, at all the places i have stayed I can in all honesty tell you i have never had watery eyes saying goodbye until this trip.
We would not think twice about staying here again,, they make you feel like family ❤️
A friendly small resort with the most stunning views. A short walk down to a fabulous beach where you can snorkel. The food was plentiful and divine. There is no air conditioning but that was manageable with fans and good ventilation. There are only a few bungalows which makes it intimate. Everyone was super friendly and helpful.
It was such a great experience staying at Makaira Resort. Definitely will be returning. Mere was very helpful, cooked amazing dinners, and it was peaceful and beautifull there.
🌺 Magical Stay at Makaira Resort – A Slice of Paradise!
My time at Makaira Resort in Taveuni was nothing short of incredible. The views, the peace, the warm hospitality—this place is a true hidden gem.
A special shoutout to Mary, whose massage was beyond amazing. One of the best I’ve ever had—deeply relaxing, soulful, and set against the soothing sounds of the ocean. She truly has healing hands!
If you’re looking to unwind and reconnect with nature (and yourself), Makaira is the place to be. Can’t wait to return.

Great position with beautiful views. Menu was somewhat limited and the restaurant below the property is overpriced and pretty basic. The lack of air conditioning is ok for a day or two but difficult to endure for a longer stay as the weather is very hot.
