Motorcycling the Wild Atlantic Way
The owners were really helpful the hotel was looking quite shabby and in need of decorating. The stay was nice there.

Beautiful Accommodations and Friendly Owners
I had a wonderful week stay at The Lanterns Hotel which is in the Tarbert countryside along the "Wild Atlantic Way" overlooking the Shannon River. I had a beautiful room with a 4 poster bed and the owners, Ishi and Raj, were so friendly and accommodating. They knew I didn't have a car so they made arrangements with the most wonderful local woman to show me the sites and she turned out to be full of information and better than the best tour guide I could have ever found. There is a bar/restaurant right on site for meals and a short drive down the road will get you to the ferry to Claire or the quaint little town of Glin. The People of Glin were so warm and welcoming I felt like I knew them forever. I would do this trip again and not change 1 thing. It was just perfect!

Excellent froendly staff. Hotel needs some tlc and updating and 1/2 more staff in bar area. Food was supeeb. Their curry was best iv ever had.

Great Hotel & Not too Expensive
This hotel has new owners who are working hard to make this a great place to stay they were very friendly they had a restaurant which was very convenient saved us going looking for somewhere to eat. Our room was large with a huge bed which was very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay here.

This hotel is in a state of disrepair. The grounds need a lot of work, the items such as plumbing are are outdated. We contracted for a double bed but were given a room with 4 singles. This made the room crowded and cluttered. Tv reception was not good. The Inn keeper was not a native so could not give us advice on what to see in the community. A lot of stuff in the halls and the grounds.

Lovely hotel a short drive to ferry and small town
Welcome experience with a beautiful room. Only a short drive to many lovely places. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Worst customer service Iv ever experienced
After paying for the hotel and having the booking confirmation the hotel owner said they were overbooked and I could not stay. I showed her my booking confirmation and said that the money was taken out of my account. I left annoyed as I had travelled a long way without anywhere to stay. She than rang me again repeating herself saying we could not stay there. She did not offer us accommodation anywhere else after us traveling. She was extremely rude and aggressive on the phone and when I said I would be writing a review on this experience she told me I could write 100 reviews that she didn’t care and it wouldn’t get me a room for the night so there would be no point. In the end she just hung up the phone on me, not a nice way to treat your paying customers. Also to add when I went to reception in the first place to check in I was waiting 10 minutes before someone even came to greet me it seems very disorganized I wouldn’t not recommend.

great stay
If I could have given higher than 5 stars I would, the staff were very accommodating, we were there on the weekend they were celebrating their first yr of trading, the celebrations were great, terrific food, and could not fault the service, the staff couldn't do enough, would recommend any one from anywhere in the world to stay at the Lanterns in Tarbet.

Problems started when we walked in
When we arrived the staff (owners?) gave a lukewarm welcome. They seemed disorganized, with one of them cracking a joke at our expense. The room smelled musty and had water stains. Paint and plaster was peeling from the walls, and the cheap laminate flooring was blistering. The toilet tank took 30 minutes to refill between flushes. The WiFi signal in the room was so weak that it couldn't be used. Noise echoed in from the hall, which wasn't helped by the staff having a long loud conversation outside our room. We didn't stay for breakfast; we wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. It was easily the worst hotel we stayed at on our holiday, and yet it was more expensive than some of the others.

This place is untrustworthy
I'd recommend going a long way to avoid this hotel. When we rang to ask about check in times, the management told us they had overbooked and there might not be a room for us even though we had fully paid and had a confirmation. Upon arrival around 3.30 or 4pm they said they were not sure there was a room for us due to overbooking. It was the most unfriendly and shifty way I've ever been received at a hotel. Eventually they said "oh well, they have paid and they are here so we should give them a key". We were shown to a room which was clearly free, which suggests they were trying to bump us off the list: presumably someone else later that day was sent away. Has this hotel been abusing the booking system? To get in at night you have to use your own telephone to call someone to let you in. If your phone doesn't work you are stuck. Even though ours did, we were left out in the cold for a long time waiting. This is a safety risk for some travellers.

The stay was very pleasant and the location was convenient. The owner are fairly new and are doing there utmost to update as time goes on the lady owner could not do enough for you, very friendly. The price was very reasonable comparing it to other places we did stay at.

Disgusting
We left before staying the night. Springs sticking out of the bed. Dirty. Extremely run down. No service to speak of. It was like a ghost ship. The whole place was unbearable. Toilet trickling and just an all round dump. We had paid top dollar but walked out and drove most of the night to get to the next place rather than stay there. There was a big dog in the hallway barking at me I was frightened to walk to our room.

Shambolic Service
Well firstly although we paid in advance and room was confirmed immediately when we showed up for our two single rooms the hotel had no rooms. Then they offered for a shared room in a B&B down the road which was unsuitable - Eventually after phonecalls and a few conversations later we were given a room in a seperate location 3km away. Not very suitable for people travelling together staying apart. The owners attitude was that we should be thankful we found rooms for us elsewhere and feel sorry for him that he had to pay extra for these rooms elsewhere out of his own pocket! We had rooms for another four nights booked and again paid for in advance again in the same place so contacted the booking agent to cancel these rooms as due to the shambolic service we didn't want to bem et again with the same service after a long days work - When they contacted the hotel the hotel refused to refund all the monies and would be keeping their 50% fee.. I rang the hotel directly again to see if there was anything at all they would do and they refused again saying they couldn't change their policy (I've worked in the hospitality industry for many years and know this is lies). Again he said he had to pay the alternative accommodation more for the prebooked and paid for rooms and that we should be sorry for him. He was very rude and not one bit hospitable. I've never left a bad review before and I know these people have recently taken over but need to warn others.

Light in the Dark
Ever wanted to go back to the 90s? Staying at The Lanterns Hotel felt like doing just that. On the bad side that means CRT televisions you actually have to get up to switch off, no WiFi (no matter what Expedia might say), no modern day double glazing to keep out the noise of the occasional 70mph car passing. However, on the good side, the owners are friendly, honest, helpful and flexible (try getting that in a chain hotel!), the rooms are clean, the breakfasts are hot, large and tasty, the decor is charming and the hotel is well sited for Kilrush, Tarbert and an hour's drive from the tourist sites of Clare. Overall, The Lanterns is a nice little budget hotel and the owners deserve to make a success of it. Probably needs an investor to install decent WiFi, television sets and maybe a bright neon sign to attract people driving down that dark single carriageway.

a great stay in a grand old hotel being reborn.
Newly reopened by new owners after 7 years of closure. Much refurbishment still to be done. Was social hub of town in its time but new owners are making a fantastic effort to catchup on the missing maintenance and wear and tear. Used rooms, restaurant, and bars are very comfortable. Pricing very fair to compensate for other shortcomings in ambiance. Food and service fantastic. We look forward to revisit in a years time and wish the owners every success.
