Good MICE hotel, very close to the old town

Very close (walking distance if not raining) to the old city - allow a good day to cover it all, and this is one of the least commercialised water-towns accessible from Suzhou or Shanghai, but not much else to do there unless you're at a conference etc. that the hotel caters for. Good, comfortable, clean working room with full amenities, nice view of the lake, very good local arts shop in the lobby. The restaurant was OK - lack of English skill resolved by ordering via iPad with pix. If there was a hotel bar, I didn't find it (and I've got an experienced nose for them!!) which was a bit strange I thought.

Walking distance location to Tongli old town was great. Unfortunately, hotel showing age and rooms not as clean as expected. It would also be nice if families were separated from non-families - the hallway was like daycare on Friday night.

The room which was assigned has a weird smell when we first entered. We provided the feedback to front desk but they told us to inform Facilities dept. It’s so not effective for guest to inform the facilities dept. don’t understand why front desk cannot help at all. In any case, a rep from facilities came. We managed to change our room. The whole corridor leading to all rooms is full for cigarettes smoke smell. Extremely unpleasant. Given that it’s a family resort, it’s not healthy for kids.

The ground of this hotel is beautiful, serene. We took a walk thru it. The staff is very helpfu, butt only few speak english fluently. So download a english chinese translator app before you come. We had a massge in the spa. I would highly recomnend it after a day in old town Tongli which is walking distance from the hotel. Don't forget to bring your swimsuit to fully enjoy the spa and swimming pool.

Good hotel/resort

Tongli lake view is a great hotel by chinese standards I would give it 4 stars as North america standards The breakfast was good. The pool and spa were also nice. Tongli ancient town is about 1km walk away and the hotel takes you to the main road about 200m away leaving a walk of approx 800m. The walk is about 20 minutes Overall happy with my stay and would recommend

Not quite what we expected

We checked in during a VERY large conference that the hotel was hosting. This is a common occurrence at "conference" hotels. What was unfortunate is that the "conference space" was primarily in the small lobby of the hotel. There were apparently conference meeting rooms as well, but any time we entered or left the hotel over our stay, we had to make our way through what felt like 1000 conference attendees queuing for various events and milling around IN THE LOBBY -- not in the conference space. Otherwise: Pros - great gift shop in lobby; the "family room" we booked had nice amount of space; shuttle to Tongli Village; walking distance to Tongli Village; the SPA was a highlight for our family -- foot massages and balanese massages were amazing!; kids loved the rabbits and chickens that were right outside of our room Cons - both dinner and breakfast buffet were disappointing compared to 6 other hotels during our time in China; I based our stay here based on the tranquility reflected on the website....our hotel in the center of Beijing was more tranquil than Tongli Lakeview. Additionally, the pool, 1 restaurant and guest rooms were under construction with no advanced notice prior to arrival ; addt'l charges for many hotel activities. Overall, we are happy that we stayed at this hotel because of its proximity to Tongli Village and the spacious room accommodation for our family of four. But a 1 night stay was more than enough time, and we were glad to be moving on.
