Family & Pet Friendly on the West End of Sunset Beach!

Summer Season - (7) nights, Saturday to Saturday stays only. Off season we have a (3) night minimum.
We are a clean, comfortable and affordable beach home located mid block on the popular west end of the island. The living area and dining room (seats 6) are just off the kitchen with a 3 seat breakfast bar. There is a TV and DVD player in the living room, and another TV in one of the bedrooms. The house has 4 bedrooms total, 2 on each side of the house. Each side has one bedroom with a Queen size bed, the other has 2 twins, with a Jack and Jill bathroom between, perfect for 2 young families to share. If you want to be outside you can enjoy coffee on the screened front porch in the morning, and husk corn for dinner or just lounge on the back deck in the afternoon.Your pet will enjoy the view from either porch too. Under the house there is plenty of room for side by side parking, and the kids will enjoy a swing, table and chairs for snacks or games, and concrete pad for their chalk artwork. There's an outdoor shower and hose for rinsing off that sand and sunscreen!

Bed linens and bath towels are provided along with a starter kit of paper and plastic supplies - enough paper and plastic supplies to get you through your 1st and 2nd day. Well behaved and fully vaccinated dogs are welcome between the ages of 1-10 years old. The Pet Fee is for two (2) dogs max for the entirety of your short term stay. Long term stays may vary.

Once you cross over the bridge to our small barrier island, leave your work and daily routine behind. Enjoy our wide beach, with it’s south facing gradual slope and gentle waves, bike around the island, or walk west to the Kindred Spirit on the Bird Island Preserve and leave your thoughts in the notebooks found in the mailbox. Check out the island shops, pier and turtle nest talks.

Close to home base, you can enjoy weekly summer concerts in front of the Ingram Planetarium, and visit the shops and restaurants on High Market. On Thursday morning you can visit the Sunset Beach Waterfront Market at the Sunset Beach Park (next to Bill’s Seafood) supporting local producers of homemade and homegrown products. Returning visitors to Sunset will enjoy the Old Bridge Preservation Society,new home of the old pontoon swing bridge since 2010, located almost under the new bridge, near the new public boat ramp.

Off island, Sunset Beach is surrounded by golf courses, pickle ball and tennis courts, as well as fishing and kayaking tours for the entire family.

Nearby Calabash features seafood restaurants along the historic waterfront, other varied restaurants-especially breakfast, and the must see Callahan's Shops.

If you want to stick with your fitness routine, the beach and streets of Sunset Beach are perfect for a run; if you need a group activity, Crossfit OIB and Body Edge are both about 3 miles away.

5 miles up the road check out the Museum of Coastal Carolina and the new Shallotte River Swamp Park, opening June 2015- featuring eco tours and zip lines, something your kids will love!

If you need some city excitement, Myrtle Beach, SC or Wilmington, NC are both close trips for restaurants,entertainment,shopping,cultural and rainy day activities.

We had a wonderful stay with the whole family. The location is perfect for walking to the beach while being on a quiet street. We were comfortable as a family of 5 with plenty of space. We were grateful to be able to check in early as well. We will definitely be returning!

We enjoyed the pet-fiendly DogHouse! It was clean, and very convenient with a short walk to the beach. We took our boat and it was a short drive to the ramp on the intercoastal waterway. Beautiful scenery! Our only complaint is the mattresses and pillows are very worn and thin and need replacing.

Wonderful Stay at the Dog House in Sunset Beach

This property offered everything we were looking for in a beach house. Very clean, comfortable beds, easy access to the beach and great communication with the owners. I highly recommend staying at the Dog House!

Excellent beach cottage

Great location a short walk to a beautiful beach. Convenient access for shopping and restaurants. Nice layout of the cottage that would be perfect for two small families to share. Love the skylights in the living room. Would stay here again.

Mother-Daughter Getaway

We had a great weekend stay at The Doghouse. Rooms were clean and house was comfortable and fully equipped. A sweet note from the host along with fresh baked cookies was a nice welcome. It was a short walk to the beach and convenient to other places to visit.

Comfortable gome close to the beach

My husband and I (along with our small dog) enjoyed our stay. The home is close to the beach and provides good amenities from relaxing on the front screened porch to cooking your favorite meals in the well appointed kitchen. Mary, the host, was responsive, welcoming and accommodating. We will look to stay here again.

Stress-free weekend

Our stay at The Doghouse was excellent. Mary was quick to communicate, answered questions promptly, kept us thoroughly informed, and made us feel welcome. The house is comfortable with a well-stocked kitchen, including a waffle iron! It was a short walk to the beach access and on the quiet end of the beach....we are return guests and will be back.

Comfy and Cozy

We love the Doghouse...close to beach, comfy beds, clean. Feels like home whenever we stay. We have new pups and they loved it too. Mary is so nice to leave chocolate chip cookies every time we visit.

Great location and pet friendly home

Mary,the property owner, is always very friendly and keeps guests apprised of any potential changes to one's stay. Her houskeeper is also very thoughtful and leaves home made cookies and snacks on the counter. I love staying here, and our dog really relaxes in the screened in porch. This is definitely a gem of a rental if you need a pet friendly hone within walking distance to the beach.

Always so comfortable and relaxed

We have stayed here many times over the last 3 years. It is sooo comfortable, relaxed and clean. I can always be guaranteed a good night's sleep in the beds. The view from the sun porch is lovely because even though it's about 5 houses down the street we can still a view of the ocean. Dogs love it, too!

Great spot for the whole family!

We loved our time at the Doghouse. Many of us hadn’t seen each other since before our little one was born and it was an incredible spot to reconnect and spend quality time together. The house was clean and comfortable with enough space to stretch our legs without overcrowding each other, ideal walking distance to the beach, and close enough to restaurants if we didn’t feel up to cooking. Our kiddo loved finding the plate of fresh baked cookies upon arrival.

Fun time at Sunset

We had a great time for the week-long vacation at Sunset. I was a bit worried at first because the house is posted as Pet-friendly, but the house was very clean, much cleaner than other houses that we stayed in the past. Also it was great that washer and dryer were in the kitchen. So convenient!We usually cook almost every meal when we are at the beach so it was very helpful that the kitchen had everything we needed. However, the toaster and the coffee maker were near the end of their life so I recommend replacing them. As I mentioned, the bedrooms and the bathrooms were very clean and comfortable. There were enough chairs and a sofa for everyone (7 of us) to hang out comfortably.The location of the house was perfect. Close enough to the pier so my husband could walk to it and fish every night. I loved the covered front porch. This was the 4th year going to Sunset Beach and this house was the best house in my book and really enjoyed staying here.We are definitely coming back again.Thank you for letting us stay and we had a wonderful time staying at this house.

Lovely!

We really enjoyed this house and our stay was perfect. The house was equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals so we could spend more time on nice family walks and game playing during our December stay. Personally, I appreciate the nice, wide, sturdy, stairs leading to the front door, the laundry room off of the kitchen rather than downstairs, and, the very accommodating owner.

Perfect Beach Bungalow

Fabulous location, well appointed, clean with all the right amenities. The bedrooms set up with a queen bedroom, 2 twin beds with a bath on each side of the house makes it perfect for 2 small families to share or 1 large one. Sunset Beach is gorgeous, the weather was perfect and the easy walk to the beach is great. Furnishings are dated, but clean and comfortable. I will be back!
