What guest love about Sugar Cub (And please read our reviews, our guests say it best!):

    * FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN: The kitchen is stocked with every amenity and can be used to serve up wonderful meals. Large preparation counter with bar stools connects the kitchen to the great room and creates a fun gathering place and the ideal cooking space. Kids love ordering up their breakfast at the island/bar! Skylight provides beautiful natural lighting, windows look out onto trees surrounding you with the beauty of the mountains. Enjoy!

    * DINING ROOM: The formal dining area contains a beautiful table that expands to seat eight for those special meals with friends and family. We keep our place settings in top shape, we want you to be proud of your table!

    * GREAT ROOM: The spacious great room has a large, comfortable leather sofa and two incredible Lazy Boy recliners. High Definition LCD TV (Cable), DVD & Roku. Wireless high speed internet. Gorgeous rock gas fireplace with log mantle completes the warm, comfortable ambiance.

    * COVERED FRONT PORCH: There is a large, redwood covered front porch, perfect for reading, enjoying a glass of wine, or just kicking back to enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest. There’s nothing like sitting on the covered front porch during a rain storm and enjoying the sounds of nature while staying warm and cozy! The red headed woodpeckers are our favorite birds to watch! They look like a penguin with hat : )

    * BACK PORCH: The back deck offers the perfect place to barbecue, watch the stars, eat breakfast, sit and read a book or enjoy your favorite beverage. You will be amazed by the quiet of the forest and the wind whispering through the trees. Stairs lead down from the back porch so you can take a walk and watch birds and squirrels playing.

    * BEDROOM 1 / GUEST BEDROOM: The guest bedroom is equipped with a queen bed (down pillow top & comforter), night stands, a beautiful pine bunk bed (2 twin beds) and cabin style decorations. A dresser is located in the large mirrored closet. There is also a TV with Roku and games for the kids.

    * GUEST BATHROOM: The guest bathroom, located in the hallway, is well appointed with a bathtub/shower combination, glass doors, pine cabinets and beautiful artwork.

    * BEDROOM 2 / MASTER BEDROOM: The master bedroom is equipped with a California King bed (down pillow top & comforter), large dresser, night stands, reclining chair, artwork and large mirrored closet. The master bath is en suite and has a bathtub/shower combination with glass doors, pine cabinets and artwork.

    * LAUNDRY AREA: Provided for long stays only, please inquire.

    * GARAGE: The one car garage is attached and accessible from the covered front porch. This is a HUGE convenience when it snows or rains. Ample driveway space is also available to park for an additional vehicle or boat. Foosball is located in the garage.

Fabulous experience. Tara the owner was easy to work with and the cabin was well maintained. Great location near pretty easy forest trails. Very kid friendly with bunk beds and in house games when you are not out in the fresh air. Will certainly stay again.

Great time at the cub!

2nd time staying at the SugarCubLodge due to our great experience the first time. This stay was no different. Our 2 kids had a great time. The cabin was in great condition and Tara, the owner, is very easy to work with and understanding. This cabin has quickly become our go to place for yearly snow time with the family.

Great stay, cozy well furnished cabin, fun location, top shelf owner

We stayed 4 nights with my wife and 2 kids 10 and 8 over the President's day weekend. The kids love the bunk beds and my wife loves the well furnished kitchen. It snowed quite a bit so we had a ton of fun on the sledding hill just up the street and some really cool snowy hikes through the woods, looking for and finding animal tracks! We also made the short drive to Bear Mountain for some skiing and enjoyed the convenience that the owner has people come to shovel the driveway and steps on snow days! It was a great escape, Tara is great to work with, and I would definitely recommend. Would definitely stay again!

My family had a great time in the snow at Sugar Cub Lodge

Sugar Cub Lodge is a very well kept and nicely decorated cabin nestled away in Sugarloaf. It suited our family of four perfectly. It’s perfect for someone trying to escape the busy city life and yet far enough from Big Bear’s high traffic areas. There is a very well stocked general store and restaurant just a couple of blocks away. However If you do want to be in the middle of all the action Big Bear just a short drive away. My family really enjoyed our stay and we hope to return. Who knows we might invite family and friends and book the Sugar Bear Lodge also which is right next door.

Enjoying the Fall Colors in Big Bear

Our first trip to Sugarloaf was the winter of 1984. The cabin we stayed at back then was nothing compared to the Sugar Cub! As soon as we walked in, we knew we were in for a wonderfully, restful vacation because the house had everything! The front room was so open, while the master bedroom was cozy and tucked at the back of the house. The neighborhood is super quiet and we barely saw a car in the street. The house was clean and beautifully decorated. We found ourselves checking the poster in the kids room to know the names of the birds we were seeing. Just another magical touch of the Sugar Cub! The garage made it easy to secure our bicycles and our Tacoma truck fit perfectly. The trees around the house with the fall color leaves was the final touch. A gentle breeze would send the leaves falling around us. It was perfect! Thank you to Tara for making the Sugar Cub a perfect place to relax!

Amazing Cabin

It's been a week since our visit and we're still talking about it daily! From cleanliness, organization, location, and overall comfort in your home. It was such a treat to have stayed there, thank you for sharing it with us. & To top it off; the rates were a steal for everything we experienced in return. Nicely done Tara! We thank you!

Charming Cabin With Fantastic Attention to Detail!

Everything about this property was fantastic. Excellent communication with the owner, Tara, all the way from the inquiry to departure. The cabin decor was updated, clean and adorable with perfect Big Bear touches everywhere. Amenities were excellent for my family of four (two teenage daughters) including bedroom TV's, games and movies. The living room was set up "Great-Room" style with the adjoining kitchen/dining, so we were all able to be together very comfortably watching movies, playing cards and also while I cooked. The gas logs in the fireplace made relaxing by the fire each evening so simple as well. As someone who cooks the majority of our meals while in BB, the kitchen was VERY well stocked with every pot, pan and gadget I needed, and dishes for serving and eating (which isn't always the case with rentals). Overall, a cabin I would definitely recommend to anyone, and also would love to stay at again. Thanks Tara!

Rent It

We loved this cabin! Perfect location, the kids could play outside, no cars. It has a real cozy feel. The great room is the hang out, we loved watching movies by the fire. First class things in the kitchen, on the walls, just a great choice overall. You can't go wrong here.

Great Cabin

I don’t usually write reviews but this cabin deserves a shout out. We’ve stayed in a few different cabins and not one of them came close to offering everything this cabin had, overall it was a perfect stay, my kids loved it and my wife and I loved it. I do like a clean cabin, this one won the prize. I guess it wasn’t just clean, it was very well maintained. The kitchen had everything you needed and very nice things, great pots and pans, nice glasses, wine glasses, awesome coffee maker. It made for a really classy dinner on Saturday, we went all out and enjoyed every minute. Kids played for hours in their room, we had the living room to ourselves with a roaring fire and glass of wine. The great room is very comfortable, didn't want to leave. Felt like we were staying in the mountains, not a gas station or fast food anywhere in sight. Thank you Tara, appreciate you were so easy to work with and all the great info you passed on.

Perfect Cabin

I had the pleasure of a walk through at Sugar Cub! Tara invited me in and asked if I could share my impression. This is a perfect cabin, that is the first thing I thought. I love the log outside and the front deck, like next door. You feel secluded and it has great views of the trees. The great room is really big and super comfy, it has an inviting feel. The kitchen is first class. All spotlessly clean. The area is great, I know because we were at the Bear next door, so quiet, no one is there. It is exactly how we want our mountain stay. We take lots of walks and can go to dinner at the lake if we want. Perfection for us. Beautiful cabin! I highly recommend.

Log Cabin Beauty!

I've stayed at Sugar Bear right next door to Sugar Cub many times in the past few years. I happened to be there when Tara was up at Sugar Cub and got to check it out. Wow. I love the Bear but this is a special cabin. Tara was adding a few extra perks to the kitchen and I can tell it will be equipped like I'm now used to! The artwork and furnishings in this cabin are really first class, you feel like you are in a cabin but it is cozy too. And clean, yes! Looks like a model house, I mean model cabin! It is spotlessly clean, I thought it was brand new. Great light too, all you can see are trees. I will be tempted to rent this one, or convince my friends we should all go. Renting either one is a great decision. Yes, I recommend. Go for it.

Well appointed cabin, fun times

My family and I have stayed here 3 times now and really enjoy the property. We have two kids (girl and a boy, ages 7 and 6) who love the bunk beds, and my wife enjoys the well appointed kitchen. I love that there are sleds in the garage for us to use when there's snow. I also love the snowy hill just up the street for sledding, the garage where you can park your car indoors overnight, and the great hiking in the nearby woods where the trails start just up the road. Sugarloaf as a location is a few minutes away from the village, and probably a little quieter, which for me has been great. Games for the kids, washer dryer for laundry needs, very much a woodsy cabin feel with the decor, and nice fireplace to warm your bones at the end of a long fun day. All in all, a great place!
