Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Súðavík?
The best area to stay in Súðavík is within the village itself, particularly near the harbour and the main road, Fjarðarbraut.

This area is the heart of Súðavík and offers the most convenient access to the village's facilities. You'll find most of the guesthouses, the local shop, and the café along or just off Fjarðarbraut. The harbour is a central point, often bustling with fishing boats and offering views of the fjord. It's a compact village, making it easy to walk around and explore.

Couples looking for a peaceful getaway will appreciate Súðavík. The village provides a tranquil setting with stunning natural surroundings, superb for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. You can take leisurely strolls along the shore or simply enjoy the quiet pace of life.

For solo travellers seeking a base to explore the Westfjords, staying in Súðavík offers practicality.
When is the best time to go to Súðavík?
The best time to go to Súðavík largely depends on what kind of experience you're seeking, with summer (June to August) generally offering the most favourable conditions.

For those keen on outdoor activities and experiencing the midnight sun, the summer months are ideal. You'll have long daylight hours, making it superb for exploring the hiking trails around the Westfjords, taking boat trips to the nearby islands, or simply enjoying the scenic drives without the worry of early sunsets. The weather is typically milder, though still unpredictable, allowing for more comfortable excursions.

If your primary goal is to witness the Northern Lights, then the darker, colder months from September to April are your best bet. While the days are shorter and the weather can be more challenging, the longer nights increase your chances of seeing this natural spectacle.
