I've come to Kompong Thom 4 times in 16 years since adopting my daughter from the government orphanage at the center of town. It is a simple traveling salesman town, with the very interesting old temple complex Sambor Prei Kok at some distance from the town. The relatively new Sambor Village Hotel is an amazing step forward. Beautiful lush garden, perfectly clear pool, really delicious food, nicely designed room with great hot water shower.
I'll mention a few things that can improve the Sambor Village Hotel, and also a couple of things for travelers to be aware of. First, the light in the rooms is inadequate to read in bed, and the WiFi may work in some rooms, but certainly doesn't work in rooms that are mid-distance from the center/ restaurant or bar of the hotel. Secondly, the wonderful hotel is located near a church that, with as much righteous ARROGANCE as the Moslems who blast Koranic singing 5x a day from towers all over the Islamic world, play at very high volume some kind of western hymns with Khmer lyrics from their loudspeakers on Sunday mornings from early. I'd advise to time your stays to avoid Sunday mornings, since the pastor has all kinds of excuses for not moderating the deafening volume, which is pretty similar to secondhand smoke. When the music stops, the pleasant river views and gardens are still there. Maybe if the hotel blasted Pin Peat music whenever the church started the over-loud hymns in sonic warfare, they would suddenly get reasonable? ;-)

No privacy due to interconnecting door with next room. Dark road to walk back from centre at night
The free bike hire was excellent, they have good quality mountain bikes, which are handy for exploring the area. My wife had an upset stomach so they made ginger and honey tea for her. The meals were of a reasonable standard. The atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderful.
Nice clean comfortable hotel. I took one of the complimentary bikes out for the evening and explored. Hotel was a bit deserted I’m sure I was the only guest but it is low season. It didn’t make a difference room and swimming pool both nice and I got a good breakfast in the morning.
Room and staf is very kind. Everything is made to make you feel comfortable. Also good locatedand our son enjoed the clean pool.
Only shade on the picture is the very poor quality of breakfast. (pankakes were note cooked enough et were re-heated we coul not eat anything...)

Great place to stay for local temple ruins. Staff friendly and helpful, accommodation good, pool welcome. Only down side was the lack if vegetarian food options and what there was (Thai green curry) completely tasteless.

A refreshing garden near the river
We came from Ratanakiri and where very exhausted after a 7 hours bus trip. And what we found was warm welcome, a large room in its oun Bungalow, a spacy garden around it, a clean pool for a Short swim and an excellent restaurant on the mainhouses first floor.
We initially booked one night but stayed for one more because it was such a lovely and charming place. The surroundings are gorgeous, lush green trees and a clean refreshing pool. Rooms are squeaky clean and very modern. Staff was super friendly and provided us with everything we needed; from great dining at your porch and cocktails at night to bustickets to Siem Reap and tuktuks to the many beautiful sights nearby. They also have free bicycles to use at any time which was a great way to see the surroundings and the marketplace. To fellow backpackers: If you can afford one night of luxury: book this place. It is awsome.
