"We get to the hotel and greet the receptionist and say we have a reservation and she starts speaking in german and say we don't have a reservation (i think) in a very angry way, and when i didn't understand she got even angrier and gesticulates at us, and then guy shows up that speaks good enough english and we ask what's wrong and he says nothing and we get our key. If I hadn't already paid for the room i would just have left. The angry receptionist really caught us by surprise, we have been...

"We stayed one night at the Hotel Pommernland having flown in to the nearby Anklam airfield. As it was the Ascention weekend there were no taxis available so the hotel manager Eric kindly gave us a lift into town to a greek restaurant. Hotel was clean and tidy and the rooms were absolutely fine. My only criticism is that there was only 1 feather pillow supplied which was way too soft, my head sunk straight through it. Breakfast was OK."

Pure nature!

10/10 Excellent
"Wir hatten eine wunderschöne Woche. Natur pur. Sehr ruhig und erholsam. Sehr freundliche Gastgeberin. Die Ferienwohnung hatte alles drin was man so braucht und war liebevoll eingerichtet. Es waren sogar Vorräte vorhanden. Überall standen frische Blumen, ein Körbchen mit Kirschen und frische Eier von den Hofeigenen Hühnern gab es auch noch. Sehr empfehlenswert."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Staven?
The best area to stay in Staven is the Old Town, particularly around the Markt (Market Square) and the adjacent streets.

This historic core is the heart of Staven and offers a delightful blend of traditional architecture and modern amenities. You'll find yourself surrounded by charming, cobbled lanes, with the impressive St. Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church) as a prominent landmark. The area is highly walkable, with many local shops, cafes, and restaurants radiating out from the Markt.

Couples looking for a romantic and convenient stay will find the Old Town ideal. The intimate setting, with its historic buildings and cosy eateries, provides a lovely backdrop for a relaxing getaway. You're also perfectly placed to explore the local museums and enjoy an evening stroll.

For those travelling with families, the Old Town is also a great option. Its central location means easy access to local parks and the nearby Tollensesee lake, which is just a short drive away and offers recreational activities.
When is the best time to go to Staven?
The best time to visit Staven is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is at its most pleasant.

During these months, you can expect warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the Mecklenburg Lake District. The average temperatures range from 15°C to 25°C, great for outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and boating on the nearby lakes. The landscape is lush and green, and the towns are often more active with local events and open-air markets.

Couples looking for a relaxing getaway will appreciate May and early June, as the crowds are generally smaller before the peak summer holiday season begins. This allows for a more tranquil experience when visiting attractions like the Staven Castle Park or enjoying a quiet meal by the lake.

Families travelling with children will find July and August particularly appealing. The warmer lake waters are great for swimming, and many of the region's family-friendly attractions, such as animal parks and adventure playgrounds, are in full swing.
