With new COVID-19 safety guidelines to follow, travel looks a bit different right now. Here's what you need to know before you get on that plane to St. Joseph Island:

• Know what, if any, rules or restrictions apply to both your origin and destination. You may not be able to travel depending on local circumstances, so remember to check in advance.
• Requirements state that you must wear a face mask throughout your travel experience, even at screening checkpoints. You should be prepared to lower your mask for ID verification when asked by a TSA officer.
• You're no longer required to hand your boarding pass directly to a TSA employee. Instead, position your pass on the reader and then hold it up to allow the agent to visually inspect it.
• One liquid hand sanitizer container is now allowed in your carry-on baggage. It must not be larger than 12 oz (350 ml), and you'll have to remove it from your bag for X-ray screening.
• To reduce handling during screening, put items such as your belt, phone and wallet into your carry-on instead of the bins.
• Transport any food items in a clear plastic bag and also put them in a screening bin. Separating food from your carry-on makes it less likely that a TSA agent will need to open your bag for inspection.
